Historia
First published in 1843, it tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a mean and unpleasant man who dislikes people generally and Christmas especially. One Christmas Eve he is visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come and given a glimpse of the many homes and lives which Scrooge has touched in his wretched life to date. After their visits, Scrooge is transformed into a kinder, gentler man.

Great performance!
Revisado: 12-30-24
Great story. Great performance. It’s an annual tradition to watch various versions of this story (especially the muppet one), but this was the first time I listened to the whole story. What a great delivery of this truly timeless classic. Listening to this will become a new annual tradition.

Historia
The West and Islam - the sword and scimitar - have clashed since the 17th century, when, according to Muslim tradition, the Roman emperor rejected Prophet Muhammad's order to abandon Christianity and convert to Islam, unleashing a centuries-long jihad on Christendom. Sword and Scimitar chronicles the decisive battles that arose from this ages-old Islamic jihad, beginning with the first major Islamic attack on Christian land in 636.

Inconvenient Truths.
Revisado: 08-13-24
This book forced me to rethink what I thought I knew about Islam. I now understand why so many white girls in America and Europe are being raped by Islamic migrants. What I don’t understand is why the West allows it and why even Russia, the recent historic defender against Islamic aggression, is now allied with Islamic powers.

Historia
The First World War laid waste to a continent and brought about the end of innocence — and the end of faith. Unlike a generation of young writers who lost faith in the God of the Bible, however, J. R. R. Tolkien and C. S. Lewis found that the Great War deepened their spiritual quest. Both men served as soldiers on the Western Front, survived the trenches, and used the experience of that conflict to ignite their Christian imagination.

An unbelievable blend of history, biography, cultural criticism, and storytelling, authenticated by painstaking research and bound by incredible prose.
The narrator conveys the text with depth of emotion and has a rich, pleasing pace and texture. High recommended.

Excellent presentation. Crappy cover art.
Revisado: 07-01-23
The Rings of Power cover art is garbage and has nothing to do with the book. This audiobook used to have wonderful cover art which matched the book’s story. I have no idea why it was changed to something irrelevant and Non-Tolkien.
Rob Inglis gives a nearly flawless reading. It’s beautiful . The books themselves are of course beyond compare, even if Amazon tried to bastardize it for its own counterfeit purposes.

One of my favorite books
Revisado: 05-28-23
I read or listen to this book once a year or so ever since I first read in several years ago. I love these characters. I love this story. The vocal talent is incredible. Truly helps you step into the experiences of the characters.
Some reviews have complained about repetition, but this is how people actually think, when you consider internal monologues. Everyone has a reasonable agenda and they are focused on it, and act in very normal ways. When people are intransigent or focused on a single goal, they do tend to say the same things over and over. I found the repetition helpful, because it helped me to remember their motivation and also helped with solving the mystery. Excellent work!

Abraham Lincoln did not come out of nowhere. But if he was shaped by his times, he also managed at his life's fateful hour to shape them to an extent few could have foreseen. Ultimately, this is the great drama that astonishes us still, and that Abe brings to fresh and vivid life. The measure of that life will always be part of our American education.

Spectacular research and performance.
Revisado: 11-22-20
A needed supplement to Herbert’s and other authors’ biographies, Reynolds immerses us in the culture and overlooked influences in Lincoln, whose progressive views I hadn’t realized and really amazed me. A wonderful book delivered spectacularly by Nixon, who appropriately conveyed nuances of amusement, sorrow, sarcasm, and disdain, as well as regional accents, and made the text come alive. I was so moved and inspired by this, I’m purchasing a copy of this book for my library, and my reading will no doubt be in Nixon’s voice.

Historia
The heroine of Tolstoy's epic of love and self-destruction, Anna Karenina has beauty, wealth, popularity and an adored son, but feels that her life is empty until she encounters the impetuous officer Count Vronsky. Their subsequent affair scandalises society and family alike, and brings jealousy and bitterness in its wake. Contrasting with this is the vividly observed story of Levin, a man striving to find contentment and a meaning to his life - and also a self-portrait of Tolstoy himself.

Move Fast and Break Things tells the story of how a small group of libertarian entrepreneurs began in the 1990s to hijack the original decentralized vision of the Internet, in the process creating three monopoly firms - Facebook, Amazon, and Google - that now determine the future of the music, film, television, publishing, and news industries.

Repair what the plutocracy has broken.
Revisado: 08-19-17
The time for plutocracy is over. I came to this book from an editorial in the Wall Street Journal. I was surprised at the position the author was thinking from but decided to continue with an open mind. This book challenged many of my preconceptions about market capitalism and libertarianism in the age of digital overlords. I was stretched and grew from absorbing this material.
Lovers of privacy, freedom, thinking, and artistic creation, please consider this book carefully. Allow it to disturb and motivate you. It certainly did me.
The author's voice is pleasant to listen to as well, although I chose the speed of 1.25x. It's a well mixed production. Good job!

The Hobbit is one of the most widely read and best-loved books of the 20th century. Now Professor Corey Olsen takes listeners deep within the text to uncover its secrets and delights. Chapter by chapter, he reveals the stories within the story: the dark desires of dwarves and the sublime laughter of elves, the nature of evil and its hopelessness, the mystery of divine providence and human choice, and, most of all, the transformation within the life of Bilbo Baggins.

Revisado: 06-05-16
I'm a longtime fan and student of Dr. Olsen. I appreciate his interest in bringing academic thoughts regarding Tolkien to the wider audience.
In this book, which he delivers in his own voice with passion and practiced pace, I felt like I was engaging The Hobbit again for the first time, having new elements of the story brought to light, adding new enjoyment and delight in Tolkien's story.
