Historia
From Mark Greaney, the New York Times best-selling author of Mission Critical and a coauthor of Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan novels, comes another high-stakes thriller featuring the world's most dangerous assassin: the Gray Man. While on a mission to Croatia, Court Gentry uncovers a human trafficking operation. The trail leads from the Balkans all the way back to Hollywood. Court is determined to shut it down, but his CIA handlers have other plans. The criminal ringleader has actionable intelligence about a potentially devastating terrorist attack on the US.

The 2nd best in the series
Revisado: 03-04-20
The Gray Man is the best in the series, but One Minute Out is a very close 2nd. Phenominal book, imho. I still miss Zoya and am anxiously awaiting her return to the series, but Cort gets a few new friends assisting in this adventure. Basically, Cort stumbles upon some people he can't help. Then through other circumstances, he gets wrangled (voluntarily) into helping after the fact. As the book untangles, Cort really gets into his groove & there are plenty of bad apples that need discarded. This is my favorite genre, and The Gray Man ranks right up there w/ Jack Reacher (read whole series, so far), John Corey (read whole series, so far), any Baldacci series (read almost all of them), Nathan McBride (read whole series, so far), Orphan X (...), etc. There are many other series that I'm still going through, and there's also a reason I've (so far) finished The Gray Man series twice... Highly recommended!

Historia
Audie Murphy was a desperately poor eighteen-year-old orphan when he joined the Army, nineteen when he first saw a buddy die from an enemy bullet and an enemy die from one of his own. By VE day, he had killed at least 240 Germans, had single-handedly destroyed a German tank in one battle and held off six tanks in another, and had become the most decorated soldier in American history, winning every medal his country offered, including the Congressional Medal of Honor.

A gripping, tough, hold no prisoners take on WWII
Revisado: 08-07-18
This is a great book for WWII &/or history buffs. Audie kinda shines over his remarkable burning tank scene that earned him the Medal of Honor. And you can tell he really misses some brothers from his original company, most who died. The sudden way he relates events really brings home the realities of the war...

Historia
Two days before Christmas 1996, the broken, battered body of Sophie Toscan du Plantier was found outside her vacation home in West Cork, a serene region on Ireland’s idyllic southern coast. Decades later, no one has been charged with the murder, but the aggrieved inhabitants of West Cork are convinced they know who did it - and he still lives among them.

An ok series that doesn't really go anywhere...
Revisado: 08-06-18
First of all, I hated the music -> it is horribly recorded (sounds like it was recorded through 2 cups & a string...), and I'm not really a fan of music or sound effects in books.
Secondly, it is kinda unclear about the facts of the case, introducing some as they affect the plot. This is also a bit annoying, but I'm sure was done for dramatic effect.
(spoiler ahead...)
Lastly, the case is still open ended. There is no resolution to this story and there's not enough facts to even draw a conclusion. It's written from the perspective that the police f'd things up, but the police won both civil trials attempting to prove that theory...
In the end, it feels like it wants to be a piece of cutting edge crime journalism that fails in both aspects. The writers could probably succeed in writing a fiction crime story, if so inclined...

Revisado: 01-27-18
I started listening to DWJ because of Howl's Moving Castle (Thanks Ghibli!!). Since then, I'm now 4 books in w/ a 5th planned. I bring this up because the whole time listening to this book, I was reminded of her books. Very similar style, very similar subject matter, and very similar characters. I truly enjoyed this book and am now glad I've found another new author to enjoy!

Historia
Dr. Emory Charbonneau, a pediatrician and marathon runner, disappears on a mountain road in North Carolina. By the time her husband Jeff, miffed over a recent argument, reports her missing, the trail has grown cold. Literally. Fog and ice encapsulate the mountainous wilderness and paralyze the search for her. While police suspect Jeff of "instant divorce," Emory, suffering from an unexplained head injury, regains consciousness and finds herself the captive of a man whose violent past is so dark that he won't even tell her his name.

A good, but not great, crime thriller...
Revisado: 01-08-18
I really liked this book, esp. some of the twists and turns it makes. I might have to listen to it again to confirm, but I think most of the twists & turns were actually worked in earlier in the book so they fit. This is unlike some books, where they are used out of convenience at the end of the story for dramatic effects. As is, it'll prob be a while before (if) I listen to this book again. (I have way too many better books at the top of that list...)
Overall, this is a pseudo-generic crime thriller story with most of the standard fare elements. Those aspects are a draw on the story, but not enough to keep it from a fun and good book. I find that liking stories, for me, requires that I like at least some of the characters. Also standard fare for this kind of story, I like most of the good characters and dislike most of the bad. This story might have been better served if some of the bad, masquerading as good, were better fleshed out and played the 'good' role better, though that'd require lengthening the book quite a bit. As is, the pacing is good for the length and both feel about right.
I'll have to listen to some more Sandra Brown books, though I don't think she'll become a favorite author. The book was enjoyable and hopefully others are as well.

A kind of interesting 'life story'...
Revisado: 12-13-17
An interesting book about an autistic boy, and the weeks / month (??) that changed his life. It was ok, but I've never really been a fan of this genre and I wouldn't be surprised if that heavily influenced my opinion. Overall there were aspects I liked (chapter numbering I loved) and aspects I didn't (you don't learn the point of the book until the very end). I guess, for me, I'm glad it was a short book. In the end, though, I did like it.
