Historia
An entire family is murdered and, by a quirk, a young girl is left unharmed. For 15 years, she believed the killer had been caught, and he's now on death row, awaiting execution. While trying to be content with her adoptive family, she's living in relentless uncertainty and the fear of remembering what really happened that night when she was five years old. She's The Watson Girl.

Predictable
Revisado: 03-05-24
What’s stood out most is how horrible this story was. First of all, the ending was so predictable. You could figure out who done it after the first few paragraphs. Second of all, it was so depraved, disgusting and hard to believe. Some of the profiling that they talked about was interesting, but the rest of it was not worth reading. The narration was excellent, though. I now cannot listen to the narrator’s voice without getting a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach, so he did a good job embodying the voice of a serial killer.

Historia
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Narration was the key
Revisado: 05-15-23
I don’t know how Barbara Kingsolver does it; how she gets into a young boy’s head and tells the entire story of every character from his perspective in his words. And then, Charlie Thurston brought that voice to life so perfectly and believably. Yes, there were many truths in this story that were difficult to hear, but Demon’s story is important to hear and is told with the kind of optimism only a young boy can; a voice that keeps you engaged and hopeful to the end.

Great romance in an historical fiction novel
Revisado: 11-01-21
It took me a little while to get into this book, but when I did it was a great and easy listen. The narrator had a very beautiful and convincing French accent although she was a bit whiny at times in her “American “ accent. I learned a lot about winemaking in France and America and a bit about life in the 1890s in Mew York City and Napa Valley. The only reason for the four stars is that it was a very predictable story with a predictable ending.

Powerful
Revisado: 06-12-21
This book was eye-opening and incredibly powerful. Before listening to this audible book, I had no idea what people living with debilitating anxiety actually went through, but this book brought their struggles to life in a way only a personal retelling can. The combination of the author’s stories and the beautiful poetry she selected and wrote was incredibly moving. I was captivated from the very start and couldn’t wait to return to the book when I had to put it down.
