Historia
Hispanic America, Texas, and the Mexican War examines the history of the southwestern area of the United States. Topics covered include the settlement of the area that became the southwestern portion of the United States, detailing how it evolved from land settled by Native Americans, to Spanish territory, to states that were pawns between the North and South prior to the Civil War.

Not a great history book
Revisado: 04-22-25
The author does not do a good job at leaving their personal bias out of the factual material. I would look elsewhere for correctly composed historical material on this topic.

At least one-third of the people we know are introverts. They are the ones who prefer listening to speaking; who innovate and create but dislike self-promotion; who favor working on their own over working in teams. It is to introverts—Rosa Parks, Chopin, Dr. Seuss, Steve Wozniak—that we owe many of the great contributions to society.

Travelers in the Third Reich is an extraordinary history of the rise of the Nazis based on fascinating firsthand accounts, drawing together a multitude of voices and stories, including politicians, musicians, diplomats, schoolchildren, communists, scholars, athletes, poets, fascists, artists, tourists, and even celebrities like Charles Lindbergh and Samuel Beckett. Their experiences create a remarkable three-dimensional picture of Germany under Hitler - one so palpable that the listener will feel, hear, even breathe the atmosphere.

Very good read
Revisado: 05-05-23
This book offers an interesting insight into Nazi Germany from an outsider perspective. It is very interesting to see as the author says the vale that was pulled over some of these people’s eyes and what people are willing to overlook to hold on to their idea of a place. Would recommend to anyone with an interest in WW2 history.

Revisado: 04-03-23
This series is by far one of the best series I’ve listened to on the topic. The accounts and personal thoughts of the author as things are happening around him are spot on. I listened to all three books almost in one setting as I could relate very closely to the author’s mindset through my own combat experiences. The first two books had a very appropriate narrator, although listening to the author in various settings I wish he would have done it himself as he is a great speaker and recounts his experiences in a compelling and engaging manner. The narrator in this book is very off putting and in my opinion takes away from the awesome material that he is reading. Overall, and despite the crappy narration, this book is a must listen and if you are in the same boat as me, a must read as you can do that in whatever voice you want. I chose that of the author. The author has recently done at least one podcast in the form of the SOG Cast that I would highly recommend as the author does an outstanding job.

Historia
Almost a century ago, the first flights to Hawaii required a nerve-racking and uncertain 26-hour journey to isolated and elusive islands located in the middle of the world's largest ocean. Pilots prayed they would encounter land after flying a full day and night across 2,400 miles of the open Pacific. Race to Hawaii chronicles the thrilling first flights to Hawaii in the 1920s, during the Golden Age of Aviation.

If you have interest in any portion of aviation or it’s history I think this book is a very good listen. I personally did not know about this topic or event and found myself diving into a wormhole of research based on the topics in it. It is very well put together and well read. Even for those looking for an exciting story this book is a good read.

I usually read only non-fiction military books. This was my first selection that was more historical fiction. I was defiantly not disappointed. I listened to this entire book over the course of a weekend. I could not stop. Would highly recommend as it is very historically and detail based.

I have been a fan of Dr. Ballard since grade school. This book is a great insight into his life and projects. Even if you haven’t heard of him the story is captivating and relatable for everyone. The emotional depth and thoughtfulness of each of the chapters has a genuine feeling to it that most books don’t even skim anymore.

The author could be described as a veteran in every sense of the word, even though he was only age 21 when the war ended. Armin Scheiderbauer served as an infantry officer with the 252nd Infantry Division, German army, and saw four years of bitter combat on the Eastern Front, being wounded six times. This is an outstanding personal memoir, written with great thoughtfulness and honesty.

Revisado: 11-09-20
The books topic interests me personally because it is always intriguing to learn both sides of history and the justification and reasoning for actions of opposing sides. This book does a very good job of providing personal insight into his experiences and does a very good job of keeping on his experiences vs glorifying combat or relaying the stories of others.
If you have read other books of this kind and topic you will enjoy this one.
