Historia
Georgie, or Lady Georgiana Rannoch, is busy planning her upcoming nuptials to Darcy O'Mara. Unfortunately, what has started as a simple wedding has become quite a royal headache and grand affair, thanks to a guest list that includes the queen and the appointment of princesses as Georgie's bridesmaids. “If only Darcy and I had eloped!” she thinks, as she attempts to organize her wedding and find a place for her and her husband-to-be to live. Just as she despairs of ever finding a home, her godfather offers his fully staffed country estate. But something sinister is afoot....

It was only 'OK'
Revisado: 08-25-18
I miss the voice of Katherine Kellgren for she made Georgie. Nonetheless, Jasmine did well.
My concern is: What happened to Georgina in this story? She has changed drastically! It is good to see her gain confidence and yet she seemed to whine constantly. Her personality has become shallow and contradictory. And Darcy, instead of the swashbuckling, mysterious and fearless hero he was in earlier writings has become too cautious, staid and actually rather boring. I wonder if this story was written in a hurry and/or if Rhys has grown tired of the characters. I miss the adventuress, slightly naive, yet humorous and lovable Georgie and the audacious Darcy O'Mara.
Is this the end of the series, now that they have finally married? Have they become, fatally, too mature for more adventuring? With WWII on the horizon I could envision very interesting possibilities mixed with blunders and humor and yet, watch the growth in each of the characters as the War forces them to make sacrifices.

Relying on her quick wit and keen instincts, Maggie infiltrates the highest level of Berlin society, gathering information to pass on to London headquarters. But the secrets she unveils will expose a darker, more dangerous side of the war–and of her own past.

Good read!
Revisado: 10-13-14
Would you try another book from Susan Elia MacNeal and/or Susan Duerden?
Yes.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
I like the way the author is presenting Maggie Hope. She's young, smart but impetuous - her youth and self-confidence has her making decisions that bring dire consequences. Wisdom is often gained from painful lessons and this is true for Maggie.
Do you think His Majesty's Hope needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Yes, the war leaves it's scars - but the author shows Maggie has the strength to learn to live with them and this needs to come out. This character has a real-life feel to her.

Why we think it’s a great listen: An all-time Audible favorite that mixes historic fiction, adventure, and romance with one of the most fascinating literary devices: time travel. Outlander introduces an exhilarating world of heroism and breathtaking thrills as one woman is torn between past and present, passion and love. In 1945, former combat nurse Claire Randall returns from World War II and joins her husband for a second honeymoon. But their blissful reunion is shattered....

Just ok.
Revisado: 10-13-14
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Less frequency in the descriptive narrative of love-making between the main characters. The story line failed to flow smoothly from scene to scene as it had to stop to often for the personal encounters....especially when a man has been almost tortured to death; I would begin to get the sense of urgency, despair and the motivation to endure and then...stop. Lost some of the realism for me.
Has Outlander turned you off from other books in this genre?
No, I've read other time-travel stories with great enjoyment - even with the underlining romance.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Davina Porter?
I thought Davina did well with her narrative.

Jake Sullivan is a licensed private eye with a seriously hardboiled attitude. He also possesses raw magical talent and the ability to make objects in his vicinity light as a feather or as heavy as depleted uranium, all with a magical thought. It's no wonder the G-men turn to Jake when they need someoneto go after a suspected killer who has been knocking off banks in a magic-enhanced crime spree.

Refreshing!
Revisado: 09-18-14
Where does Hard Magic rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
As a re-read/re-listen. I know when I listen to the story again I'll catch all the stuff I missed the first time.
What about Bronson Pinchot’s performance did you like?
Kept the story moving and gritty.
Any additional comments?
Having the history of the 1920's, 1930's era mixed with the fantasy of magic was a new approach and one I found refreshing and engaging.

Revisado: 03-26-14
Where does Theft of Swords rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Towards the top best listens.
Which scene was your favorite?
I love the interaction between Royce and Hadrian. This is the true wit of the book and realistic action between good friends.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
It was hard to put this book down and I chaffed waiting until I could reasonably return to the book; and once I started back into the book I would be annoyed if I was interrupted, including by one of my family!
Any additional comments?
I will be looking for other books by this author and hope that Tim Gerard Reynolds will continue to do the narration.

Historia
By a lonely roadside in the south-west corner of Western Australia, old-timer Karl Mueller is roused from his drink-sodden sleep by approaching footsteps and the sound of whistling. What he sees on waking (or he thinks he sees) is enough to make him stiffen with fear, and more than enought to worry the police into calling for Detective-Inspector Napoleon Bonaparte.

Comforting.
Revisado: 03-11-14
Is there anything you would change about this book?
This is not what I call Arthur Upfield's best writing regarding Insp. Napoleon Bonaparte (Bony) but I still enjoy having this book in my library.
Would you be willing to try another book from Arthur Upfield? Why or why not?
Yes, I love 'Bony.' He uses such wit and intelligence to find his killer. He listens carefully to everyone, is a perfect gentleman and is a very patience detective, knowing that with patience people may become relaxed and say or do things to give him the clue he needs. His aborigine background along side his British heritage is such interesting mix.
What three words best describe Peter Hosking’s performance?
I think Peter H. does a great job. Clayton Moore is the Lone Ranger and Peter Hosking will always make me think of Bony.

Revisado: 03-11-14
Would you try another book from Larry Correia and/or Oliver Wyman?
No. This is truly a MAN's book - and i mean that as a complement. I didn't care for it because the character was in love with his prowess too much and it was a shoot 'em up, let someone else sort out the bodies. I was expecting more of a mystery than a point and shoot.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Yes, Oliver Wyman did a good job on this story.

Award-winning author, narrator, and screenwriter Neil Gaiman personally selected this book, and, using the tools of the Audiobook Creation Exchange (ACX), cast the narrators and produced this work for his audiobook label, Neil Gaiman Presents. In this exciting new "illuminated production", the author herself reads her own work, supported by a full cast.

What was the point?
Revisado: 03-11-14
What disappointed you about The Privilege of the Sword?
I kept listening to this book hoping that it would, in the end, come together and be a satisfying story....it never did. I felt it left me hanging.....wondering just what it was I suppose 'learn' from the story.
What was most disappointing about Ellen Kushner’s story?
The book review spoke of a eccentric uncle turning his niece into a swords women. It didn't tell me that I would be subjected to descriptive scenes of male on male intercourse which I didn't care for but may be exciting for others. The niece never showed a personal maturity or self discipline in actions other than in practicing the sword. I felt the book was more concerned about the sexual activity between the uncle and his lover instead of developing the character of the niece - which is what the privilege of the sword was supposed to be.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
I would have returned it but I waited too long - and i only keep it in my library so i don't get another book like this.
Any additional comments?
The cast doing the readings were good.

"Only in that dark heart of London where it's always three a.m., where human and inhuman can feed their darkest desires, do I feel at home. Probably because I was born here. What I do is find things - people, objects - and in this case, the truth about the origins of the Nightside. That's what Lady Luck has hired me to investigate. But the more I dig, the more I discover, not about the Nightside but about the great question in my life: exactly who - and what - was my long-vanished mother."

Revisado: 03-11-14
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I have read the previous Nightside books and thought they were well written and moved along at a good pace. I was disappointed with this story line as I felt the author spent much too much time in describing the scene and/or character. I would get the idea long before he finished his narrative and lose track of the story line and why were where we were.
Has Hex and the City turned you off from other books in this genre?
No, I will try another Nightside book and I believe Marc Vietor does a great job portraying John Taylor

The discovery of the stolen red monoplane on the dry, flat bottom of Emu Lake meant many things to many people. For Elizabeth Nettlefold, the chance to nurse its strangely ill passenger meant a new purpose in life. For Dr Knowles, brilliant physician and town drunk, it meant the revival of a romantic dream. For a person or persons unknown, it meant a murder plan gone badly awry. And for Detective-Inspector Napoleon Bonaparte, it meant one of the toughest cases of his career.

How did I miss this author?!
Revisado: 08-25-13
What made the experience of listening to Wings Above the Diamantina the most enjoyable?
I've read many mysteries set in different parts of the world and in different eras but the Australian outback? I didn't know these existed! Mr. Upfield's character Inspector Napoleon Bonaparte is a half-breed Aborigine/English mix bring the best of both worlds into play. The portrayal of the wilderness, the lives of the people during the time period, and the mysteries the Inspector needs to solve are intriguing and I hate when I have to put it down, I get so wrapped up in the stories.Peter Hosking does an excellent job of narrating this series.
Which character – as performed by Peter Hosking – was your favorite?
Inspector Napoleon Bonaparte - a very interesting man.
Any additional comments?
I would love to have Audible bring more of the Inspector Bonaparte books to life with Peter Hosking narrating. Reading them isn't anywhere near as enjoyable as listening to them! I will be watching for them.
