Such a moving book! Recommended reading for everyone. Of course, you need to read all of the previous books in the Inspector Gamache series, just so you can relate to the main characters who have been growing, regressing, evolving, throughout the previous 7 books. They are all totally worth reading, but The Beautiful Mystery is truly a special book. I now have to research history to learn fact from fiction, but that's just another chance to learn more. I was completely drawn into the rich detail of monastic life, Gregorian chants, church history over the past 1000 years. It's not boring, as I would think, if somebody mentioned old monks to me. it's rich and deep with understanding and insights. Treat yourself!

It is such a pleasure to listen to ALL of Kristen Painter's books and B.J. Harrison's narration. I'm envious of those listeners who have not listened to them all. Kristen's imagination never disappoints. I wish she could write a book a week, and she IS terribly prolific, but Nocturn Falls is my favorite place to vacay from the crazy world and busyness that surrounds us. If you're already a fan, this is another great listen. If you're new to Nocturn Falls, jump in here, or at the beginning. You'll love this world.

Kristin Painter's stories and B.J. Harrison's voice are a balm for the jangled soul. Dealing with the craziness of the world with pandemics, political nastiness, and everyday stresses are soothed away to the fringes while I listen to Harrison read Painter's wonderful stories filled with wonderful characters. I think I've read all of her books, and now I'll have to wait for a new one. Please just keep writing, Kristin. I truly appreciate the worlds and characters you have given us.

I don't understand any of the criticisms in previous reviews. Patricia Briggs has written another superb story to continue the incredible adventure into the world of Mercy Thompson and The Murok. Richest of characters and plot lines. The world Briggs has created is consistent, complex, and, for fantasy, totally believable and captivating. If I tried to list all the wonderful characters and a few of the interwoven storylines, I'd be writing all day. Just know that everyone should read/listen to both series. preferably in order. I prefer the Audible versions simply because the narrations of Holter Graham and Lorelei King are on a par with Briggs's writing. Don't miss out on this book/series.
