I actually spent a credit on this, expecting it to be sexy. I should have listened to all the reviewers who said it was bad, because it is. This is just stupid! All the characters are one dimensional and just mean. I think the amount of research hours spent before writing this has been approximately zero. I am Norwegian. There is not a single person in this country called Thorsen. It is a surname! It would have been so easy to find out as well. Don’t these authors have google? One simple Google search is all it would have taken to find out. I could have overlooked this if the book had been good, but it is not. I don’t understand why the characters act as they do. I know it is a fairytale re-telling, but since this story is taking place in our modern world, I would have expected some justifications to why the king is such an evil person, but he is just mean, no explanations why. It isn’t even week performed. I don’t know why the male narrator reads in a really bad German accent. I’ll just end my rant here. Don’t be like me and not listen to reviewers; this is not worth your credit.

One of the most beautiful Books I have ever read

This book was sweet, beautiful, sad and frustrating, but it was one of the best books I have ever listened to. I have a big problem with people not being allowed to be who they are because of religious reasons, that’s why this book was so frustrating! But the romance was sweet, the coming-of-age was strong. I highly recommend this book!

I really liked the storyline, but I did not enjoy the narration. I'm not found of entire books read in faux accents, and I cringed every time the narrator pronunced a Norwegian word! (And there are a lot of them, and not even hard ones). I guess that a non-Norwegian listener won't find this as bothering as me, but this ruined a lot of the listening experience for me, at least in the first part of the book. Aside from this, it was interesting to listen to a book set in Norway.

What would have made The Italian Girl better?

An actual interesting storyline, interesting characters, and a narrator who woesn't do a faux Italian accent. It sounds fake, and it is annoying to listen to.

What was most disappointing about Lucinda Riley’s story?

That there were no interesting characters or storyline whatsoever. I have enjoyed her other books, and were looking forward to reading this, but this doesn't come even halfway close to her other books.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

She had a horrible fake Italian accent whenever one of the characters in the book said something. I don't even know why narrators do this. Everyone can hear that they don't know the language they are trying to fake, and we know that the characters are from Italy. Wouldn't they speak Italin to each other then? Why the need for bad accents?

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

No, I'm sorry but it didn't!

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I don't really know. Noone? People who like stories about mermaids?

What was most disappointing about Milly Johnson’s story?

That I have enjoyed so many of her other books, and this one was just so silly. I couldn't tell the main characters from each other, and the men they fell in love with, yuk and yuk!

What about Colleen Prendergast’s performance did you like?

She was the only good thing aboyt this book

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

boredom

What would have made Reached better?

What wouldn't? Some action maybe. For better parts of the book nothing happens at all. I was just waiting for something to happen, but no. The outcome was as predicted as well, no news there. She chose the one I knew she'd choose, and all was well in the world. I can't believe that a trilogy with such a promising start had such an incredibly boring ending. The entire book lacks inspiration.

Would you ever listen to anything by Ally Condie again?

Hmm.. maybe? I loved the first book in this trilogy, so why not?

How did the narrator detract from the book?

All the narrators read in monotone voices, so that the already boring story got even more boring and tedious.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment.

What made the experience of listening to Poison Princess the most enjoyable?

The originality of the plot. It is something different from the other young adult dystopian books I've read recently.

What did you like best about this story?

All the new and interesting twists that showed up along the way.

Which character – as performed by Emma Galvin and Keith Nobbs – was your favorite?

Jack, without a doubt. I found Evie to be a bit silly and boring in the beginning, but she got better as the story progressed.

Okay, so I love Precious and her little detective agency. I never thought I would. THe reason why I've given this such a low score is because it is abrigded. By doing this, they totally wreck the book. The good thing about the story is all of Mma Ramotswe's own thoughts and the way she herself tells the story. By just summing it up for the reader, well, let's put it this way: I will never buy an abrigded version again. I don't even know why they would do that to good books....

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I don't know. People who like to listen to a bad French accent?

What was most disappointing about Belinda Alexandra’s story?

I couldn't get into it. The start dragged and dragged. I tried several times, but I just didn't like the story. And the really bad narration didn't help.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Kate Hood?

Caroline Lee who does the other Belinda Alexandra books. She is really good!

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment, boredom

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Of course! I really loved it. I think it is interesting to read a book that is set in Mussolini's Italy and the characters and their relationships between them is beautifully described. I was sad when the book ended.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked that it was set in Italy before and during the war. I am a history teacher, and thus very interested in history. This story told about an era that has been described in many books, but I have never read one from Mussolini's Italy.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes! More than one, but I can't reveal them because it would reveal too much of the story and parts of the ending. But this is a story set in times of war, and many of the main characters are partisans. It goes without saying that they experience both dramatic and sad moments.
