Historia

Light and thought provoking
Revisado: 01-09-23
Great story, very well told mostly from the main protagonist’s point of view. The feminism and anti-racism aren’t preachy, which makes them very effective and the dark humor swells nicely throughout the novel. Great listen!

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Charming
Revisado: 09-01-22
An entertaining story with charming (if not necessarily very believable) characters, and a positive feminist or rather humanistic message. Very enjoyable.

Good Grisham, not the best, but certainly worth the credit.
Revisado: 08-27-22
I am a regular reader of Grisham’s novels, Skipping Christmas, the one NOT a legal thriller, being the one I least care for. LOVE Grey Mountain, and A Time For Mercy, and many others. Camino Island (this one’s part one) was superior: tighter story, more gripping relationships, more intense thrills. This one is a bit tamer, though has a few original and endearing novel elements, all and all, a thoroughly enjoyable if not unforgettable, audiobook. Performance is great.

Who is Elmyr? Simply put, Elmyr de Hory is known by many as the most notorious art forger of all time. He believed that if a forgery hangs in a museum for long enough - as he claimed many of his works did - it eventually becomes real. Yet, as with many fraudsters, much of the myth is exaggeration or invention.

Interesting, if a bit repetitive
Revisado: 08-24-22
Just 4 chapters and an epilogue, so the length is just right. The stories/ facts related are interesting and it seems well researched and nicely put together and delivered, putting those facts in perspective and asking thought-provoking questions. It’s just a tiny bit repetitive, about “if a lie is told enough times does it become somewhat true” and “you may not get the story you are looking for”… still, enjoyable.

Historia
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

Honest, full of love, thought-provoking and of course, funny
Revisado: 05-23-21
T. Noah’s life story could have been told from the bottom of a sordid prison or never told at all, summarized on a headstone; it could have been told in bitterness and as a call for revenge or more hatred and violence. Clearly Noah has made the choice to speak from love, for humanity, his mother, himself, and the result is heartfelt, bright, and, yes, funny... never-mind the tears I’m wiping from my cheeks over a few sentences that hit strangely close to home.
Highly recommended.

Historia
David Starr Jordan was a taxonomist, a man possessed with bringing order to the natural world. In time, he would be credited with discovering nearly a fifth of the fish known to humans in his day. When his specimen collections were demolished by lightning, by fire, and eventually by the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, many might have given up, given in to despair. But Jordan? He surveyed the wreckage at his feet, found the first fish that he recognized, and confidently began to rebuild his collection. And this time, he introduced one clever innovation.

Touching, engaging, enlightening: GREAT
Revisado: 12-07-20
I bought this title after hearing an interview on one of the multiple NPR shows I hear as podcasts... was intrigued by the title, recognized the author’s name and voice. I’m so glad I did buy it. The book is multifaceted, with something to satisfy historic or science curiosity. To me, though, the personal memoir intertwined with the apparent subject matter was the richest. Completely moved me. The style is light and precise, with some coloquial, so it feels very current. I thoroughly enjoyed it and think learned a thing or two and grew also.
Great book.

In this controversial and exciting listen, Pollan explores caffeine’s power as the most-used drug in the world - and the only one we give to children (in soda pop) as a treat.

This short work is well researched, structures and written, as I expected from the series “cooked” (haven’t read the book).

Good though not the best Grisham
Revisado: 01-09-19
I’m a big fan of John Grisham, first one I get with a companion audio-book. The story is good enough, though a little short on suspense, social themes and relationships, as compared to Gray Mountain or the Rooster Bar- just to mention the previous two I read most recently. Still, it’s crisp as usual, the plot, as usual, holds well, it’s a new universe that is nicely depicted, that of rare books and manuscripts; particularly appreciated the epilogue, to tie things up.
Narration is fine indeed, good rhythm, not a big fan of all the different voices, though they are skillfully performed.
Thoroughly enjoyed it, do recommend it.

For the first time, Hillary Rodham Clinton reveals what she was thinking and feeling during one of the most controversial and unpredictable presidential elections in history. Now free from the constraints of running, Hillary takes you inside the intense personal experience of becoming the first woman nominated for president by a major party in an election marked by rage, sexism, exhilarating highs and infuriating lows, stranger-than-fiction twists, Russian interference, and an opponent who broke all the rules. Important perspective from an excepcional woman
Revisado: 10-30-17
I hesitated about starting this book, as reviews emphasized “looking back in anger”. Well I’m glad I heard it through as I find Mrs. Clinton’s arguments compelling and her ongoing commitment, and, yes, disillusion, genuine, and oddly uplifting. I find the book balanced and thorough.
Still with her!!! Onward together!
