I would have enjoyed this novel, much more were it for the one scene in the seedy underground casino. all through the novel I just kept remembering that one scene. It really took me out of the fantasy of what was happening between Alton and Noah.

Character wise I think Alton and Noah were fairly flushed out. They had fears and doubts and hopes and dreams. That is what I like to see in characters.

the obstacles they faced were more like speed bumps and that was a little frustrating for me because it seems like anyone they came up against that was an issue was just in one scene and then they were gone.

There was a lot of time spent on how much money Alton had, and what he spent money on, and towards the end of the novel it got extremely ridiculous. Every piece of lingerie has jewelry and diamonds in it? He bought all of those ridiculous gifts?

Would I recommend this to someone else? Probably.

Although I applaud the author for what they were trying to do, the story just wasn't very believable. It didn't deal directly with the idea of two "straight" guys coming to term with their romantic feelings for one another, and by directly, I mean not at all. The more it went on, the more I was rolling my eyes.

That being said, the sound was really weird on the narration. The narrator didn't do a terrible job, but the sound quality was awful.

This title had so much promise. The premise, the characters and the overall setting are written well, but where it all falls apart is with the story. Max is great and the way he's written in the first few chapters is perfect, but the moment he meets is mate - and I say that incredulously - he does a complete 180 in terms of characterization and becomes a completely different person. Conversely, Japser immediately comes across and unlikeable. You think at some point that he is going to change since Max is unrecognizable as the same person in the first few chapters, but that never happens. Jasper remains thoroughly unlikeable and just when you think you don't like him enough, he purposely and maliciously does something just so he can completely devastate and destroy Max for good. I couldn't come back from that rooting for them to have a happy ending.

This was another fun mystery from Josh Lanyon. I do enjoy Josh’s writing style. The characters seem very genuine. I’m still a little torn on Jack who seems very wooden. I need him to relax a little bit.

I was confused by all of the red herrings that were added in this book. What became of the door in the mausoleum? What about the inscription on the door? We never got a resolution to that. This seems to be a common thread with these mysteries. It’s almost as if we get to the point of the climax and the rug is pulled out from underneath us and there is no climax. Still, I would recommend this book to others because ultimately it’s a cute little story.

This was an extremely pleasant surprise. I don’t usually select period pieces or anything having to do with ghosts or horror. I was glad that I chose to go with this selection. I instantly found myself immersed in the story and invested in the characters and their goals. I appreciated that both men seemed to be mild mannered, which is something that you don’t often find in gay romance novels where usually one man is more dominant than the other. Both characters endured real pain in their lives and this informed the decisions that they made. Both of them, at times acted stupidly but there was always a reason for it and it never seemed to be done out of true malice. The story moved along at a good pace. The characters, save for one all seemed to have their own unique personalities. The one male who was the driver or chef or whatever he was asked to do at any given moment, did not appear very much and when he did, he was just someone in the background, so when (very late in the story) he became a bigger part, it was anticlimactic because we didn’t really “know” him. That aside, I really did enjoy this read. I would recommend it to anyone interested in a fun story with lots of excitement and main characters that aren’t one-dimensional.

The narrator was great. She spoke clearly and used inflection when necessary. The material was simple and easy to understand. I probably would have discussed the different spreads after explaining what the cards meant, but that’s just me being picky.

I got lost a couple of times during the explanation of the cards and, at times, couldn’t remember what card she was discussing. I’m not sure how to present this information in an audible book without that happening, though.

Overall I enjoyed it.

I DNF’d this book mostly because of the narrator. I’m sorry, but the narration was very robotic.

Okay, did I just hear the narrator, in the middle of reading, stop and cough and then find his place and then start the sentence over again?

More by the numbers than actual romance

I very nearly DNF’d this installment. I am a fan of the genre, and I don’t mind the instant love story, but I really didn’t feel that with this book. It really did seem like a biological directive. There was none of the relationship building that the first two books had.

The straw that almost broke the camel’s back was the bullying and shaming that Colin was subjected to when he expressed his innermost fears after having just learned the truth. He was guilted into doing what the others wanted him to do. That left me very disappointed with the other Alpha Mates.

This series needs a fresh perspective if it is going to continue. So far it has been three books of the same situation with only slightly different variables and less relationship building / romance.

I would like to see a book with an Alpha Mate in a position of power and an Alpha who doesn’t have all of the money under the sun.

Overall it was a cute story and I really enjoyed the characters, but the two narrators were jarring. The same Characters sounded completely different when performed by the two actors was a little weird. That’s my only negative criticism.

Other than that, I really did enjoy the story. I wish there was a little more “danger” involved than just having the main issue be a misunderstanding, but overall I really enjoyed this one.
