Historia
Ben's double life continues at the Royal Institute of Magic. To most, he's a talented apprentice and an exceptional spellshooter, but Ben is also a Guardian, responsible for uniting Elizabeth's Armour, the only artifact powerful enough to overthrow the evil dark elves. With two pieces of the armour secure, finding the third may be Ben's toughest challenge yet. His only clue is a magical key, a tenuous link to a legend called the Silver Dwarf.

Historia
Ben Greenwood is continuing his apprenticeship at the Royal Institute of Magic, hoping things will be slightly less complicated now that he has advanced to the second grade. Fat chance. Coupled with the sterner challenges that the second grade brings, there is also the small matter of the impending dark elf invasion, making life at the Institute even busier than usual. Ben is the only one who can stop them, by finding Elizabeth's armor and its Guardians.

Historia
Three months ago, the horrible news that the Dark Druids captured his beloved pet Gryphon sent thirteen-year-old Jake Everton reeling—especially since he knows he’s the one the warlock brotherhood really wants. It’s a trap, and poor Red is just the bait. Well aware of the threat, the Elders have forbidden the daring boy hero from taking any action to rescue his faithful companion. Instead, Jake and his friends must cool their heels at the Order’s palace headquarters, where they’ll be “safe.”

Disappointing changes
Revisado: 01-14-25
I gave 5 stars across the board for the previous books for engaging story, character development, characters that were fun and loyal and quirky with entertaining adventures. Just the right amount of intrigue and anticipation with adventure and friendship. The narrator skillfully told the story and was entertaining in the voice nuances he set for the characters. Without spoiling it for anyone, This one started off incredibly dark. It was like I was starting an entirely different story from the “dark side”. It was off-putting from the first words and I only finished because I set a goal to do so. The narrator was so different that it changed the characters for me. Lastly, there were some things that lacked continuity. Sadly, even though I’d love to know how the kids fare, and see Jake and “Carrot” become lightriders, the narrator is the same throughout the remainder and book 6 ends with just as much evil as it started so I don’t foresee a reason to continue.

Historia
Being a typewriter is not as easy as it looks. Surrounded by books (notorious attention hogs) and recently replaced by a computer, Olivetti has been forgotten by the Brindles—the family he’s lived with for years. The Brindles are busy humans, apart from twelve-year-old Ernest, who would rather be left alone with his collection of Oxford English Dictionaries. Once a collector of words, now Olivetti only collects dust. He gets a rare glimpse of action from Ernest’s mom, Beatrice—his used-to-be frequent visitor—only for her to drop him off at Heartland Pawn Shop and leave him behind.

Families get through the tough stuff together
Revisado: 07-21-24
The narrative between Olivetti and Ernest is wonderful and so poignant that there’s no reason whatsoever to doubt that a typewriter can communicate such truths for life. A tale of how we can “show up” to help and to keep showing up. Oh! And the very of exploration and searching for dumpster treasures! Well worth the read.

Shoulda read the reviews
Revisado: 07-20-24
Maybe I’m old fashioned but this girl seems to be 19 going on 12. There’s too much attitude, drama, and weird romance (somewhat creepy) without good development so it felt inconsistent and continuity gaps.
There’s also some oddly placed profanity - 1 f-bomb in the entire book.
Lastly, it’s actually not very interesting until the last 1.5 hours. I hung in there to see when it was going to get interesting (and see if I was right about the “mole” - btw - still don’t know) Nothing compelling to keep me going in the series.

Historia
In a fit of genius (and cowardice) Simon has left his friends frozen in time, awaiting their deaths. Meanwhile, he explores the ancient magical city of Tarinea in hopes that he might find a way to save them. If he's lucky, he might find another bloodstone while he's at it. But Tarinea isn't quite what the travel brochures said it would be. It's a place of dark magic, ancient mysteries, old enemies, brutal competitions, of monsters and mayhem, of silent sorcerers, and foul intentions. To get through, he will have to trust a strange new friend, survive a mysterious teacher, and face the dangers.

I know I wrote “hilarious” for book 2 and it’s still holds true for book 3! Hilarious!!! There’s this footnote that is explaining homonyms and synonyms and some other “nyms” I never learned in school- I was on a walk and had to stop I was laughing so hard. English teachers - assign this book!!! It’s educational and hilarious (oops, said it again). Word of warning - this one has a darker side. And sadly books 4 and 5 are not narrated yet. So I’m going to read them and then listen when the author gets on the stick and gets them done!! Hurry up!!!

Historia
My magic powers are junk. An evil wizard wants me dead. My minotaur sidekick is a total nerd. My task? Save the world without being smashed, blown up, eviscerated, or transformed into a yak. Or roasted alive by the miniature dragon that has taken up residence in my boot. My only hope? A magic coat that I inherited from a long-dead magical megadude. It does 50 cool things, most of them useless. Sure, it can grant me ninja powers, turn me invisible, and make me leap tall buildings. But it only does those things once a day, and only for like five seconds.

Engaging, clever, hilarious
Revisado: 07-15-24
I recommended this series to a friend and used “hilarious” too many times that appropriate to be grammatically correct. And yet that’s just it- the overuse of footnotes to give commentary on grammar, definitions, authors, and language is very funny. And there’s still the engaging story and adventure of Simon who wins the day through many accidents, and his 2 close friends - one of which is a Minotaur. Lastly, it is unusual in my experience that the author is such an adept narrator but this guy sounds like he loves what he wrote and puts his whole narration in letting the reader know how he wants his story to be heard.

Still very creative but seemed like not enough story for book 4 but not enough development to end book 3. Not going to spoil it though. And it does complete the story. I found myself fast forwarding through some bits and saying, “really? Are you kidding me?”

Revisado: 06-29-24
I didn’t think I’d like this, but as a music teacher this is very cleverly “composed” with magic, music theory, live music backgrounds and interludes, 7th grade drama, friends and loyalty. It’s very clever and entertaining.
