Mycroft Canner is a convict. For his crimes he is required, as is the custom of the 25th century, to wander the world being as useful as he can to all he meets. Carlyle Foster is a sensayer - a spiritual counselor in a world that has outlawed the public practice of religion, but which also knows that the inner lives of humans cannot be wished away.

Gender Studies Major Writes Sci-Fi
Revisado: 03-24-23
Had solid expectations for this book based on the awards & love for it. The main conceptual through-line was the pronoun twisting and free-form gender play. If you like making people jump through pronoun hoops, then you'll probably love this book. For me, however, it's a one trick pony that was disappointing enough that the other merits couldn't pull me into the rest of the series. I finished this book & listened to several hours of the next before opting out. I won't even be reading the Cliff Notes to find out what happens in the story.

Sci-Fi PreDocumentary
Revisado: 04-27-22
Last night I finished the book. It outlines a future that is more probable than I'd like to admit. That's why I call it a "PreDocumentary."
Ambitious & fun story by Robert with rock solid delivery by Jonathan.
Looking forward to when book 2 is ready for listening.
