Historia
In 1954, 63-year-old Maine farmer Annie Wilkins embarked on an impossible journey. She had no money and no family, she had just lost her farm, and her doctor had given her only two years to live. But Annie wanted to see the Pacific Ocean before she died. She ignored her doctor’s advice to move into the county charity home. Instead, she bought a cast-off brown gelding named Tarzan, donned men’s dungarees, and headed south in mid-November, hoping to beat the snow.

Wonderful story
Revisado: 01-12-25
This book kept me engaged and also triggered nostalgia for the 1950s. This is truly a different world, but this took me back and I felt like I was on this trip with her.

Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Similar family background!
Revisado: 01-07-25
I related to the people in this memoir because my father’s family is from a very similar history. My dad joined the military at 17 and ended up with a very advanced career in engineering. He initiated and headed the project for the night vision technology used for the first gulf war. He never knew it was used because he died the day that war started. He was involved in the development of the moon camera at Kodak. He was a brilliant man who was self educated,

Historia
Meet Ellie Cooke. When it comes to all things environmental she’s, well, a bit "green". It’s not that she doesn’t care about things like climate change and plastic pollution, it’s just that life has always got in the way of that sort of thing. But when the PR firm Ellie works for is taken over by keen environmentalist Nolan Reece, it’s clear that if she wants to save her job, she’s going to have to get serious about being green—or face being recycled.

Protagonist brainwashed with false climate change info touted as true. Hope the author doesn’t really believe the bs his character has been fed.

The pendulum has swung so far!
Revisado: 03-07-24
Excellent history of a horrible situation. Sadly, we have come so far with the “rights” of the mentally ill that we are effectively unable to obtain appropriate treatment for many who suffer because they have the “right” to be insane . Just take a look at the homeless population.

Historia
On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Great story, but incomplete
Revisado: 02-04-22
I do enjoy this author, but I was very disappointed that she didn’t really finish this. I was really looking forward to how this resolved, but she cut it off. I’m sure it was supposed an attempt to be artsy, but is felt more like slamming into a dead end. One other point that bugged me was the poorly veiled digs at President Trump and no mention of the habits center and the hospital ship, as well as no mention of the nursing home debacle caused by cuomo. Those were pretty important aspects of covid in NY.
