Historia
From the author of the “engrossing” (People) and “poignant” (Booklist) international best seller The Room on Rue Amélie comes a remarkable and moving story of love, danger, and betrayal: two women in France in the darkest days of World War II and another in present-day America on a quest to uncover the secret that connects them.

I did not see that coming!
Revisado: 04-16-25
This was an excellent story. It is more about the people and the upheaval of war rather than the war itself. There were several times I gasped with a “did not see that coming!” sort of gasp.
One of the performers had a lousy French accent but the reader for Liv’s grandmother was much better!

I was looking forward to an historical novel but this was more romance than action. Some may enjoy it, but it wasn’t my favorite.

Historia
Her name is Alicia. She was 13 when she began saving the lives of people she did not know - while fleeing the Nazis through war-ravaged Poland. Her family cruelly wrenched from her, Alicia rescued other Jews from the Gestapo, led them to safe hideouts, and lent them her courage and hope. Even the sight of her mother’s brutal murder could not quash this remarkable child’s faith in human goodness - or her determination to prevail against overwhelming odds. After the war, Alicia continued to risk her life, leading Polish Jews on an underground route to freedom in Palestine.

Too sad for me
Revisado: 01-26-23
This story of repeated brokenness just does not conclude with joy as I’d hoped it would. It is based on true life events so I guess reality bites.
Also wasn’t impressed with the sex “scenes.” They weren’t too explicit but they could have been left out completely!
