Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Revisado: 12-05-13
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Not so much
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The world and the culture that was created at The Circle.
Could you see The Circle being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Yes, because it is very topical. A good vehicle for the stars of High School Musical.
Any additional comments?
This book attempted to be a jack of all trades but mastered none. It was engaging but not convincing. Never living up to its promise, it left me wanting more depth of detail, characters and their motivations.

Historia
When beautiful, reckless Southern belle Zelda Sayre meets F. Scott Fitzgerald at a country club dance in 1918, she is seventeen years old and he is a young army lieutenant stationed in Alabama. Before long, the "ungettable" Zelda has fallen for him despite his unsuitability: Scott isn't wealthy or prominent or even a Southerner, and keeps insisting, absurdly, that his writing will bring him both fortune and fame. Her father is deeply unimpressed.

Historia
Judith Whitman always believed in the kind of love that "picks you up in Akron and sets you down in Rio". Long ago, she once experienced that love. Willy Blunt was a carpenter with a dry wit and a steadfast sense of honor. Marrying him seemed like a natural thing to promise. But Willy Blunt was not a person you could pick up in Nebraska and transport to Stanford. When Judith left home, she didn't look back. But 20 years later, Judith's marriage is hazy with secrets....

Would you try another book from Tom McNeal and/or Susan Boyce?
The romance was too smooth, the performance was too staccato, I wanted to like it but didn't. It would serve well for those who like Bridges of Madison County or any Sparks book.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The author was good at pulling you in.

Historia
The beloved New York Times best seller from acclaimed author Eleanor Brown about three sisters who love each other, but just don't happen to like each other very much. Three sisters have returned to their childhood home, reuniting the eccentric Andreas family. Here, books are a passion (there is no problem a library card can't solve) and TV is something other people watch. Their father - a professor of Shakespeare who speaks almost exclusively in verse - named them after the Bard's heroines. It's a lot to live up to.

Historia
Sam Theopolis entered the Woolman household like a clown with treasures up his sleeve. He kept the absent-minded Jessie from permanently checking out of reality, and he brought an inconceivable joy to Jessie's younger daughter and grandson. But just when the current of their lives seemed smooth and untroubled, tragedy struck like a squall. With eccentric characters reminiscent of Anne Tyler, Willard takes the reader on a quirky journey of the heart.

Lovely prose. but...
Revisado: 03-06-11
... I kept falling asleep. I rallied because it was a good story that was well-written. I can only blame the narration. I couldn't understand why a man narrated what was a woman's story... and, why the man chosen used such a prissy voice when narrating the female characters.

Insecure siblings fighting for their parents' attention; bickering spouses who can't stand to be together or apart; adultery and sexual experimentation; even the struggle to balance work and family: These are themes as much at home in our time as they were in the twelfth century. In James Goldman's classic play The Lion in Winter, domestic turmoil rises to an art form.

Revisado: 04-04-10
I had thought that this play was so well-written that any reading would be wonderful.... I was wrong. This recording cannot begin to compare to Peter O'Toole's and Katherine Hepburn's Henry and Eleanor. What particularly hurt this recording was Eleanor's timing - so much was missed.

Historia
Psychiatrist Andrew Marlowe has a perfectly ordered life--solitary, perhaps, but full of devotion to his profession and the painting hobby he loves. This order is destroyed when renowned painter Robert Oliver attacks a canvas in the National Gallery of Art and becomes his patient. In response, Marlowe finds himself going beyond his own legal and ethical boundaries to understand the secret that torments this genius, a journey that will lead him into the lives of the women closest to Robert Oliver.

Don't Listen When Driving!
Revisado: 01-28-10
And allow for double the listening time because you will be constantly falling asleep... most especially throughout Treat Williams' readings. I don't place the whole blame on Treat Williams; Anne Heche was shrill (I get it - her character was shrill - but it was still very annoying). Finally, and ultimately, I don't think the greatest narrator could have saved this slow and tedious book.
