Historia
Rosie Thorne and her father have been short on luck - and money - for years. So when she loses her grocery store job in a heated moment of smashing the patriarchy, she knows she may be forced to give up on her dream of leaving her small town for a prestigious college creative writing program. On the other hand, Vance Reigns has been Hollywood royalty for as long as Rosie’s been clipping coupons and secretly writing massively popular fanfiction. When a tabloid scandal catches up to him, he’s forced to hide out somewhere the paparazzi would never expect to find him: Small Town USA.

What?
Revisado: 04-20-22
I mean, it is what it is, but it definitely feels like some balls were dropped in the writing of this 3rd installment in the once upon a con series. Also, Rosie's kind of a terrible person.

Historia
Written with an exciting combination of narrative flair and historical authority, this interpretation of the tragic life of Catherine Howard, fifth wife of Henry VIII, breaks new ground in our understanding of the very young woman who became queen at a time of unprecedented social and political tension and whose terrible errors in judgment quickly led her to the executioner's block.

A fascinating and detailed account
Revisado: 04-20-22
This account of the life of Catherine Howard is incredible. For what was originally a thesis, Gareth Russell manages to add a great depth of narrative intrigue in this review of Catherine Howard's life, and portrays Catherine not as simply the victim or the vixen, but as a well rounded character of her time, while never crossing the line into fiction. The level of background detail that russel provides on the time period is enlightening, and never feels circuitous or like it takes away from the weight of the story, but really constructs the world that Catherine lived in. The writing gives a detailed account of Catherine's life, while feeling less dry than rote autobiography. The performance by Jenny Funnell, while not mind blowing, does a good job of letting the words speak for themselves. Her narration doesn't impose much performance on the Russell's words, but in the realm of non-fiction, it's not unwelcome. Her tone is easy to listen to, and lets the brilliance of the writing shine through.

Historia
Lupe Wong is going to be the first female pitcher in the Major Leagues. She's also championed causes her whole young life. Some worthy...like expanding the options for race on school tests beyond just a few bubbles. And some not so much...like complaining to the BBC about the length between Doctor Who seasons. Lupe needs an A in all her classes in order to meet her favorite pitcher, Fu Li Hernandez, who's Chinacan/Mexinese just like her. So when the horror that is square dancing rears its head in gym? Obviously she's not gonna let that slide.

What's with the racist accents
Revisado: 04-20-22
I'm a chinese/latine woman. The accents were... a lot. The story is fine but boring.
