Historia
When it comes to writing books, are you a "plotter" or a "pantser"? Is one method really better than the other? In this instructional book, author Libbie Hawker explains the benefits and technique of planning a story before you begin to write. She'll show you how to develop a foolproof character arc and plot, how to pace any book for a can't-put-down reading experience, and how to ensure that your stories are complete and satisfying without wasting any time or words.

I wish I would have read this sooner
Revisado: 03-08-25
This is the most intuitive book on writing that I’ve ever read. Libby Hawkers style not only walks you through the process step by step, but also gives masterful examples of how to apply the process to your writing. This is a must book for any aspiring writer.

Historia
In this intimate and open account—nothing like any rock-and-roll memoir you’ve ever read—Alex Van Halen shares his personal story of family, friendship, music and brotherly love in a remarkable tribute to his beloved brother and band mate. In his rough yet sweet voice, Alex recounts the brothers’ childhood, first in the Netherlands and then in working class Pasadena, California, with an itinerant musician father and a very proper Indonesian-born mother.

As raw as great rock n roll
Revisado: 01-05-25
This book is so heartfelt. He doesn’t bad mouth anyone- which is so rare in these biographies. It was just a man talking about his brother and friends - accepting all the weaknesses that we carry through life.

Historia
“Love is our only hope,” Anne Lamott writes in this perceptive new book. “It is not always the easiest choice, but it is always the right one, the noble path, the way home to safety, no matter how bleak the future looks.” In Somehow: Thoughts on Love, Lamott explores the transformative power that love has in our lives: how it surprises us, forces us to confront uncomfortable truths, reminds us of our humanity, and guides us forward. “Love just won't be pinned down,” she says. “It is in our very atmosphere” and lies at the heart of who we are. We are, Lamott says, creatures of love.

Relatable Theology… or something like that
Revisado: 07-22-24
To read Anne LaMott is to be amazed at her voice. To hear Anne LaMott on an audio book, is art times 2. This is another classic example of how she can relate to even the most flawed people (of which I am one) and share her thoughts and experiences in such a way that we can all relate. This book is so beautifully written (and read) and her weaving of spiritual beliefs (always profound and often irreverently hysterical) will make you sit back and ponder your relationship with that all powerful force of love. What a gift she brings to her readers.

Historia
Filled with narrative stories, humor, and practical help, this book is for anyone who wants to live fully and wonders just what that might look like in daily life. Many people are lurching in the twilight, hoping to sing once again… living lives of quiet desperation, searching in vain for signs of life. St. Irenaeus said, "The Glory of God is man fully alive." For those who have been sidelined in life, for those tempted to give up, this book screams Live!

Historia
Jerusalem and the Sinai desert, AD 55. In the turbulent aftermath of the crucifixion of Jesus, agents of the Roman Empire receive information about a pilgrim bearing an incendiary letter from a religious fanatic calling himself Paul the Apostle to insurrectionists in Corinth. What's in the letter could bring down an empire. The Romans hire a former legionary, a solitary man-at-arms named Telamon to intercept the letter and destroy the courier. But once he meets the courier, Telamon experiences an extraordinary conversion.

Martelle gives such a great roadmap for self publishing, especially for writing in a series. His advice is not only helpful, he actually gives it in a motivational tone. I will definitely look into his 20 Books to $50k.

Her humor and her delivery make this book not only informative, but inspiring and entertaining. Not really sure why she describes herself as so odd looking. I looked her up and she’s quite pretty. Not that this matters, as her book is magnificent.

Historia
Here is a visionary analysis of how the politics of fear, secrecy, cronyism, and blind faith have combined with the public sphere's degradation to create an environment dangerously hostile to reason. Never has there been a worse time for us to lose the capacity to face the reality of our long-term challenges, from national security to the economy, from issues of health and social welfare to the environment. As The Assault on Reason explains, we have precious little time to waste.

Divisively biased
Revisado: 10-02-22
I have great respect for VP Gore. His service in Vietnam while his peers used family connections for deferments and National Guard safety is admirable and his dedication to the environment is vital. But this was a political rants against Republicans- with no calling out of the other side (who got us into Vietnam, yet he railed on Iraq). He even quotes JFK as an authority on the evils of secrecy- the Pres that had numerous secret affairs. I’d love to hear what he has to say about his party today.

Refreshing and Genuinely Non-Divisive
Revisado: 05-03-21
After reading Obama’s book where the former President takes no accountability whatsoever and blames Republicans for everything (including Jim Crow laws enacted by Democrats) it was refreshing to hear a humble and sincere view of John Boehner. His no nonsense view of what Washington could and should be is a must read (listening to it is even better). A true humble servant. Thanks John.

Passive Aggressive divisiveness
Revisado: 04-29-21
Overall description of his journey to the Presidency was well done and some of the discussion on back office scene around legislation was fascinating but his constant bash of Republicans was contrary to his claim of being non divisive. Constantly uses “JimCrow Laws” to characterize Republicans. Maybe he needs to be reminded that Jim Crow Laws were enacted by Democrats. That with his false humility can be annoying. He could have learned a lot from the class of Joe Biden. Too bad he missed that lesson.
