Historia
As a botanist and professor of plant ecology, Robin Wall Kimmerer has spent a career learning how to ask questions of nature using the tools of science. As a Potawatomi woman, she learned from elders, family, and history that the Potawatomi, as well as a majority of other cultures indigenous to this land, consider plants and animals to be our oldest teachers.

"Let us gather our minds as one"
Revisado: 12-23-22
This is part of the Thanksgiving Address that is shared at every gathering of members of the Onondaga Nation, neighbors of Robin Wall Kimmerer who gave her permission to share the story. It also feels like a good synopsis of her plea
for a mindful way of life.
Braiding Sweetgrass is one of my top ten favorite books in print or audio. Robin's voice is gentle to my ears. For the first half I had to listen at home - the road noise in my SUV made it too hard to hear. Then I traded in my Forester for a RAV4 and the quieter ride allowed me to revel in the lovingly crafted stories calling humanity to a more conscious caretaking of our mother Earth. We have much to learn from the people who were here long before the light skinned ones arrived. Indigenous peoples learned from the other living beings of the planet how to harvest honorably, asking permission first, in balance and reciprocity, always giving thanks. Robin shares her personal stories of family, students and her community with equal tenderness while calling our attention to things in need of healing.

Historia
August 1911. Emily Hardcastle and her inimitable lady’s maid Florence Armstrong are enjoying a fine summer until Harry, Lady H’s brother, turns up out of the blue with a mystery for them to solve. A routine parachute test at a local aeroplane factory has gone horribly wrong - with pilot Dickie Dupree plummeting to his death. Harry is certain there is more to this ‘tragic accident’ than meets the eye, having discovered that someone at the airfield is leaking top secret intelligence to foreign rivals.

A treat to be savored
Revisado: 03-05-21
Every one of the Lady Hardcastle mysteries have been delightful and I have been torn between trying to make it last and binge listening. The congenial banter between Mrs. H and Flo feels contemporary, yet the setting of the English countryside of 1910 is laid out in a natural flow.
The narrator is the best I have ever heard and must have magical technicians at her service to nearly overlap dialogue. The animal sounds were quite skilled and I wished they were used more in scene setting. If the series were only available in print I would enjoy it thoroughly, but Ms Knowelden's talent is ineffable.

Historia
Lady Emily Hardcastle is an eccentric widow with a secret past. Florence Armstrong, her maid and confidante, is an expert in martial arts. The year is 1908 and they've just moved from London to the country, hoping for a quiet life. But it is not long before Lady Hardcastle is forced out of her self-imposed retirement. There's a dead body in the woods, and the police are on the wrong scent. Lady Hardcastle makes some enquiries of her own, and it seems she knows a surprising amount about crime investigation...

First rate diversion
Revisado: 11-05-17
On par with Agatha Christie, I was drawn into an earlier time and familiar place. Kinsey wove a web of intrigue that had me wondering if I was in book 10 of the series rather than the first.
The comradery of Lady Hardcastle and her maid gives the listener a feeling of coconspirator in a culture on the earliest edge of shifting to more egalitarian times. The evolution of the inspector's character was a pleasant turn as he was shown to be far more wily and competent than they first thought.
Though I sometimes struggle to follow dialogue in British television programs, Knoweldon's artfully articulated performance put me quite at ease. I shall enjoy the next offerings of Mr Kinsey on holiday- alternately listening and reading as the format allows me to.

Historia
Bernie keeps a barn full of animals the rest of the world has no use for: two retired trotters, a rooster, some banty hens, and a Muscovy duck with clipped wings who calls herself The Lady. When the cat called Whittington shows up one day, it is to the Lady that he makes an appeal to secure a place in the barn. The Lady's a little hesitant at first, but when the cat claims to be a master ratter, that clinches it.

Enjoyed it so much I listened twice!
Revisado: 10-04-17
It was like listening to a theater production! Whittington is a wonderful story and the narrator carried the suspense and helped make a long drive enjoyable.
