Historia
March, 1815. The Bourbon King Louis XVIII has been restored to the throne of France, Napoleon is in exile on the isle of Elba, and Sebastian St. Cyr, Viscount Devlin, and his wife, Hero, have traveled to Paris in hopes of tracing his long-lost mother, Sophie, the errant Countess of Hendon. But his search ends in tragedy when he comes upon the dying Countess in the wasteland at the tip of the Île de la Cité. Stabbed—apparently with a stiletto—and thrown from the bastions of the island's ancient stone bridge, Sophie dies without naming her murderer.

I like the amount of history in this novel.
Revisado: 09-26-23
Too many writers of historical novels simply allude to a few historical facts, but this novel cleverly integrates history with an intriguing story. Although there were probably too many characters in the story, some were probably unnecessary (red herrings, I suspect), the author makes enough references to each character along the way so the reader can keep them straight.

Historia
Family lore had it that Bonnie Siegler’s grandfather crossed paths in Midtown Manhattan late one night in 1954 with Marilyn Monroe, her white dress flying up around her as she filmed a scene for The Seven Year Itch. Jules Schulback had his home movie camera with him, capturing what would become the only surviving footage of that legendary night. Bonnie wasn’t sure she quite believed her grandfather’s story…until, cleaning out his apartment, she found the film reel.

Outstanding intermingling of seemingly unrelated fascinating stories.
Revisado: 09-19-23
The writer obviously did a lot of research to unearth and expand the connections between the characters in the book.

Historia
Just days after the 9-11 attacks, a senior Pentagon analyst eased her red Toyota Echo into traffic and headed to work. She never saw the undercover cars tracking her every turn. As she settled into her cubicle on the 6th floor of the Defense Intelligence Agency in Washington, FBI Agents and twitchy DIA officers were hiding in nearby offices. For this was the day that Ana Montes--the US Intelligence Community superstar who had just won a prestigious fellowship at the CIA--was to be arrested and publicly exposed as a secret agent for Cuba.

Shocking, revealing, informative, cautionary.
Revisado: 09-07-23
Extremely well-researched, written, and narrated. It is evident that the author put his heart and soul into this book to the benefit of an often uninformed and complacent American public. This is one of the best books (out of many) I have read this year.

Parts of the story were hard to understand.
Revisado: 09-05-23
In order to understand the story, I had to lower the bass on my listening device and raise the volume quite a bit before I could hear the dialogue. I know I missed part of the story.
