Historia
'You like it darker? Fine, so do I', writes Stephen King in the afterword to this magnificent new collection of twelve stories that delve into the darker part of life - both metaphorical and literal. King has, for half a century, been a master of the form, and these stories, about fate, mortality, luck, and the folds in reality where anything can happen, are as rich and riveting as his novels, both weighty in theme and a huge pleasure to listen to.

some of the stories weren't to my liking at all. I wish they would give some kind of classification as horror and dark fiction spans many sub genres.

Historia
David Botham just wants a quiet ordinary life - his job at the travel agency, his relationship with his girlfriend Stephanie. The online blog that uses a title he once thought up has nothing to do with him. He has no idea who is writing it or where they get their information about a series of violent deaths in Liverpool. If they’re murders, how can the killer go unseen even by security cameras? Perhaps David won’t know until they come too close to him - until he can’t ignore the figure from his past that is catching up with him....

Campbell at his finest... paranoia, hinted terror, psychological drama, puns aplenty, and a quirky cast of everyday folks leading everyday lives... but for some, perhaps this is their final day?

Historia
To the children, the town was their whole world. To the adults, knowing better, Derry, Maine, was just their hometown: familiar, well ordered for the most part. A good place to live. It was the children who saw - and felt - what made Derry so horribly different. In the storm drains, in the sewers, IT lurked, taking on the shape of every nightmare, each one's deepest dread. Sometimes IT reached up, seizing, tearing, killing....

Historia
It begins in the most boring place in the world: Chickentown, U.S.A. There lives Candy Quackenbush, her heart bursting for some clue as to what her future might hold. When the answer comes, it's not one she expects. Out of nowhere comes a wave, and Candy, led by a man called John Mischief (whose brothers live on the horns on his head), leaps into the surging waters and is carried away.

Not a kids' book!! Unless they're awesome kids :)

What did you love best about Abarat?
This is Clive Barker's Lord of The Rings- his Narnia- his Star Wars saga- his land of 'Oz' and his 'Never Never land'- Just add a twist of the dark and macabre and you have the idea...
What did you like best about this story?
It draws you in from the word go; empathising with the bored, alienated and disenchanted Candy, you are transported with her into the mysteries that lie just beneath the surface of this world and the next. Just be careful what you wish for!
Have you listened to any of Richard Ferrone’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
He's perfect for the part.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes, and yes. And more importantly; it made me think.
Any additional comments?
Too many to capture here. I love this book, I love the world that Clive has created, and the underlying commentary on our own world.
