Historia
The sheriff's deputy at the front door brings hard news to Ree Dolly. Her father has skipped bail on charges that he ran a crystal meth lab, and the Dollys will lose their house if he doesn't show up for his next court date. Ree's father has disappeared before. The Dolly clan has worked the shadowy side of the law for generations, and arrests (and attempts to avoid them) are part of life in Rathlin Valley.

Narrator too Monotone to keep my attention
Revisado: 09-16-14
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I didn't get through the entire book. My mind kept drifting. Maybe someone with more focus and less distractions could get through it and enjoy the book. I got this book because I had heard it raved about by some friends. So it must not be all that bad, the audible version was just too hard to listen to attentively.
Has Winter's Bone turned you off from other books in this genre?
No.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Emma Galvin?
No idea. No suggestions.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
boredom and disappointment. I couldn't listen for long without finding that my mind had drifted elsewhere.
Any additional comments?
Would love to try again with a different narrator and see if I actually enjoy the story.

Historia
In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women—mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends—view one another. A deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don't.

Excellent!
Revisado: 09-16-14
If you could sum up The Help in three words, what would they be?
Thought provoking semi-fiction
What other book might you compare The Help to and why?
Compare to the book/tv mini series Roots, in view of historical treatment of blacks in early America.
What about the narrators’s performance did you like?
Multiple narrators added to forming the different characters as I listened.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Sad to think what many black Americans might have gone through in history as recent as the 1960's.
Any additional comments?
The Help is a great listen.

Why we think it’s a great listen: There’s no gentle way to put this – Frank McCourt’s performance of Angela’s Ashes is just better than the Pulitzer Prize-winning book. Frank McCourt shares his sometimes heartwarming, sometimes heartbreaking story of growing up poor, Irish, and Catholic in the Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela's Ashes.

Historia
This book won't help you with self-defeating behavior. It's easier to spend your life procrastinating, sabotaging relationships, not finishing tasks, fearing failure and keeping other bad habits than it is to change. Just stay the way you are. This is how the voice of self-defeating behavior works on you. It works against your goals and interests in a way that you never get what you want. Opportunities are missed, your habits continue, your relationships don't flourish, and your life becomes one big regret.

Too Short & Too Simplistic
Revisado: 06-27-14
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I'm not sure who would benefit from reading this book, as I found it too simplistic and vague, and it didn't dig deep or unveil any real issues I could grasp onto and relate to. I was surprised when the book was over.
What could John Burke have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
This book seemed to me to be more observational, and at that, only observational at a surface level. In other words, anyone could have written the book. It didn't provide any insight or solutions as I expected it to do.
What three words best describe Jason McCoy’s performance?
Really not bad.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Problem Is YOU?
There were no 'scenes'. it was really quite a shallow book, not offering much in the way a self-help book should.
Any additional comments?
A disappointment. Will probably re-listen again, perhaps I was too distracted the first time. Will definitely update my review if I feel otherwise after a second listen.

Historia
Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten. The Fault in Our Stars is insightful, bold, irreverent, and raw. It brilliantly explores the funny, thrilling, and tragic business of being alive and in love.

A "Chick Flick" in book form, Not just for chicks
Revisado: 06-27-14
Would you listen to The Fault in Our Stars again? Why?
Yes, Great story. Plus, always better after the first time, since characters are already known.
Who was your favorite character and why?
No real favorite, although each and every character gives a good representation of the types of people that are in this world, and how each deal with life and different aspects of tragedy. Enlightening and insightful.
Have you listened to any of Kate Rudd’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The bad thing is, I was listening to this book while sitting at my desk at work. Not the best idea when the story often moved me to tears.
Any additional comments?
I wish we could share audio books just like we do hard cover books! I'd lend it to all my friends and to my kids.
