Historia
On July 12th, 1776, Captain James Cook, already lionized as the greatest explorer in British history, set off on his third voyage in his ship the HMS Resolution. Two-and-a-half years later, on a beach on the island of Hawaii, Cook was killed in a conflict with native Hawaiians. How did Cook, who was unique among captains for his respect for Indigenous peoples and cultures, come to that fatal moment? Hampton Sides’ bravura account of Cook’s last journey both wrestles with Cook’s legacy and provides a thrilling narrative of the titanic efforts and continual danger that characterized exploration.

Historia
When Michael Lewis first met him, Sam Bankman-Fried was the world’s youngest billionaire and crypto’s Gatsby. CEOs, celebrities, and leaders of small countries all vied for his time and cash after he catapulted, practically overnight, onto the Forbes billionaire list. Who was this rumpled guy in cargo shorts and limp white socks, whose eyes twitched across Zoom meetings as he played video games on the side?

Illuminating and Typical Lewis Simplification
Revisado: 11-01-23
Not overly simplified, but it sums up the complexities of crypto gambling pretty well like only Lewis can. He’ll probably need to add a chapter or 10 after the trial. Also, I’m still not sure what the ultimate effective altruistic goal was in FTX and if realized would Sam kinda be like the messiah? Maybe he rushed it to help influence the trial…

Kinda typical

Not a lot of surprises. The predictability only gets worse with the lack of closure.

Historia
Greece in the age of heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the kingdom of Phthia to be raised in the shadow of King Peleus and his golden son, Achilles. “The best of all the Greeks”—strong, beautiful, and the child of a goddess—Achilles is everything the shamed Patroclus is not. Yet despite their differences, the boys become steadfast companions. Their bond deepens as they grow into young men and become skilled in the arts of war and medicine—much to the displeasure and the fury of Achilles’ mother, Thetis, a cruel sea goddess with a hatred of mortals.

Too romantic but a well written epic
Revisado: 02-20-19
The narrator is great but the romance is cheesy and there is lots of it. It is poetic and well written with enough lengthy action to pay proper homage to the epic.

Simply Inspirational
Revisado: 02-19-17
Without many words you'd have to look up in a dictionary, Walker inspires one to look past the difficulties in every life for a deeper calling. This book will make everyone want to find their own 'Red Mountain' and soak in the glory and tragedies that will unfold. It won't hurt your Vino vernacular either!
