Bob Johansson has just sold his software company for a small fortune and is looking forward to a life of leisure. The first item on his to-do list: Spending his newfound windfall. On an urge to splurge, he signs up to have his head cryogenically preserved in case of death. Then he gets himself killed crossing the street. Many years apart. Still love the story. Clever writing and smart vocabulary. Seems well researched as well. Really like it!

Awful
Revisado: 07-17-17
Both the performances and the writing were just terrible. The author doesn't create believable characters or dialogue and the voice actors perform equally unconvincingly. The characters are trite and flat. I couldn't finish. And from other reviews, it doesn't seem like I'm missing much.

Mark Bramhal mispronounces things a lot
Revisado: 05-27-16
Where does The Magician King rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Reasonably high. The story is pretty good. A little slow moving.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Magician King?
There are quite a few twists. I appreciate when I cannot predict the ending of a story.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Mark Bramhall?
No. He mispronounces so many things! Things as simple as "sloth" and "macchiato."
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Slohthe

Geared towards those still in college
Revisado: 03-08-16
While some parts were helpful to readers who have been out of undergrad for some time, not all of it is. This book is clearly targeting those who are still undergraduate students and doesn't offer much additional help to those who have graduated.

Historia
Mare Barrow's world is divided by blood - those with red and those with silver. Mare and her family are lowly Reds, destined to serve the Silver elite whose supernatural abilities make them nearly gods. Mare steals what she can to help her family survive, but when her best friend is conscripted into the army she gambles everything to win his freedom. Unimpressed, too many plot holes
Revisado: 01-26-16
What did you like best about Red Queen? What did you like least?
Y'all, I understand the characters are teenagers and that the book is intended for young adults, AND that it is fiction, but I found the tactics used by both the reds and the silvers unrealistic and unintelligent.
**SPOILERS BELOW**
1. The silvers should have just killed Mare from the start and called her powers trickery. Problem solved for the silvers.
2. The silvers, who are adults, should have seen the "coup" coming from a mile away—since the whole country can be run from it—and West Archeon would have been much more well-protected.
3. The author spent so long talking about Gray Town—the highly polluted town full of slums and factories—where the reds make all the stuff for the silvers. The Scarlett Guard should have just started sabotaging all of the silvers' things by recruiting all the reds in Gray Town and eventually cut off the silvers' supply. That would have made much more sense and have been much more successful than their terribly thought out, rash plan of attacking the West Archeon.
Would you ever listen to anything by Victoria Aveyard again?
Most likely not.
Have you listened to any of Amanda Dolan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes. Below average.
Was Red Queen worth the listening time?
No.
Any additional comments?
