This is a fascinating and engaging look at porn's place in our society. Dr. Burke does an excellent job of presenting a thorough review of many perspectives and letting the reader experience the ambivalence of examining this complex and polarizing subject.
Burke presents all the myriad 'sides' with generosity to her subjects. She doesn't drive toward any foregone conclusion but presents the arguments and the people making them with deftness, situating them in an historical context--legally, religiously, morally, culturally. There are no easy answers and so much to think about.
Great narration of the audio as well. I'm looking forward to reading/listening to more from this author.

Historia
Punch Me Up to the Gods introduces a powerful new talent in Brian Broome, whose early years growing up in Ohio as a dark-skinned Black boy harboring crushes on other boys propel forward this gorgeous, aching, and unforgettable debut. Brian’s recounting of his experiences—in all their cringe-worthy, hilarious, and heartbreaking glory—reveal a perpetual outsider awkwardly squirming to find his way in. Indiscriminate sex and escalating drug use help to soothe his hurt, young psyche, usually to uproarious and devastating effect.

Fantastic writing, incredible stories. From real laughs to real lows and beyond. The author is an amazing reader, also. Definitely recommend the audio. But just read it. You will be glad you did.
