Historia
Gemma Summers is unlucky in love. She's known it since third grade, when her first crush blew a spitball into her hair, and a decade-long string of bad dates, boring sex, and abysmal morning afters has done nothing to improve her prospects. But when a random radio call-in contest lands her courtside tickets to the hottest playoff game of the season, Gemma's luck may finally be on the upswing, even if it doesn't exactly seem like it when the dreaded Jumbotron kiss cam lands on her and her date.

it was okay.
Revisado: 11-17-24
honestly, the narrator was kind of annoying, but I blame the main character. she was annoying. and immature and I had a really hard time suspending reality to believe she would act so idiotically. I followed it through. I was interested in what happened, but I disliked a lot of the choices in the arc of the story. overall, the whole thing was annoying.

Horribly, tragically, wonderful.
Revisado: 05-20-24
It's been a long time since I've read Tess. And this version did not disappoint. The audio was very good. The ladies voices done by Peter Firth we're okay, but you could feel the passion in everything that he said. I can't help but love this story of tragedy. It's just so good. Yes, there are characters I absolutely despise, but that makes it even better. You can feel your heart being wrenched through everything that Tess endures. You want to scream for her, cry with her, protect her and avenge her. If you're struggling getting into this book, try the audio.

Captivating story. I really enjoyed it all the way through.
Revisado: 02-02-24
It took a minute for me to get into it. I stopped lots, terrified of what may come next. It was worth it. The authors note at the end with the historical information was absolutely fascinating. Well done, I feel like Amy Harmon definitely did justice to Deborah Samson.

Historia
When Marilyn Kleinman is caught making out with the rabbi’s son in front of the whole congregation, her parents ship her off to her great-aunt Ada for the summer. If anyone can save their daughter’s reputation, it’s Philadelphia’s strict premier matchmaker. Either that or Marilyn can kiss college goodbye. To Marilyn’s surprise, Ada’s not the humorless septuagenarian her mother described. Not with that platinum-blonde hair, Hermès scarf, and Cadillac convertible. She’s sharp, straight-talking, takes her job very seriously, and abides by her own rules…mostly.

LOVED.
Revisado: 09-09-23
This was a great book! This one has all the feels. Funny, sweet, tragic... I didn't think it was predictable at all. So many twists and turns! There were definitely things I figured out, but it was set up to make you think about what was coming up in the story and often it wasn't something expected. I loved so many of the characters and the ending was perfect. My favorite character was definitely Ada, but Marilyn was great too. It was nice to see how she evolved as the story went on. Sometimes we have to learn things by making mistakes. That was a great point. I call it "learn by see vs learn by do". And the point about letting go of your kids to help them pursue their dreams, not pushing your dreams for them onto them, got me. Just a great book. I love books set back in the 60s with strong women characters who fight the norms. They are inspiring.
The narrator was perfect. Unfortunately there were a lot of weird pauses. I did read it in my kindle as well.

Morgan is determined to prevent her daughter from making the same mistakes she did. By getting pregnant and married way too young, Morgan put her own dreams on hold. Clara doesn’t want to follow in her mother’s footsteps. Her predictable mother doesn’t have a spontaneous bone in her body.

Loved the story.
Revisado: 09-06-23
So tragic and happy. The story was great. Very captivating, the characters were easy to invest into. The narrator for Clara was awesome. The narrator for Morgan is not good. Some parts were better, but her over pronunciation is so irritating and grating that it takes effort to listen and enjoy the story. I'm glad there were 2 narrators, or I would have just read the whole thing on my kindle
