Historia
Six minutes after takeoff, Flight 1421 crashes into the Pacific Ocean. During the evacuation, an engine explodes and the plane is flooded. Those still alive are forced to close the doors—but it’s too late. The plane sinks to the bottom with twelve passengers trapped inside. More than two hundred feet below the surface, engineer Will Kent and his eleven-year-old daughter Shannon are waist-deep in water and fighting for their lives.

I Had To Evacuate
Revisado: 08-18-23
The plot, the dialogue, the characters, and the performances, grated me so badly I had to give up a little more than halfway through and wipe this from my library.
Sometimes we need something simple and mind numbing but this wasn’t it for me. Will it make a good film, since it’s going into production? Yes, but please flesh out these characters and have them speak and interact with each other to not cause viewers to roll their eyes.
Worst, most overhyped book of the year for me.

Historia
On a chilly November morning at the University of Georgia, a fraternity brother steps off a busy crosswalk and is struck dead by an oncoming car. More than a dozen witnesses all agree on two things: the driver looked identical to the victim, and he was smiling. Detective Marlitt Kaplan is first on the scene. An Athens native and the daughter of a UGA professor, she knows all its shameful histories, from the skull discovered under the foundations of Baldwin Hall to the hushed-up murder-suicide in Waddel.

Simplistic With No Action
Revisado: 03-11-23
Anytime a book is compared to The Secret History the use of that ‘buzz title’ will raise interest. And most times, if not all, the new offering won’t live up to the comparison. I need to learn my lesson.
The Resemblance in no way comes near. I was so unimpressed with this novel I stopped listening 45 minutes before the conclusion. I just didn’t care.
There’s no action, not one character to pull for, and the imagery created in your mind from the words spoken is simplistic at best.
Hard pass.

Historia
After moving from a small country town to Seattle, Heather Baxter marries Tom, a widowed doctor with a young son and teenage daughter. A working vacation overseas seems like the perfect way to bring the new family together, but once they’re deep in the Australian outback, the jet-lagged and exhausted kids are so over their new mom. When they discover remote Dutch Island, off-limits to outside visitors, the family talks their way onto the ferry. But as soon as they set foot on the island, which is run by a tightly knit clan of locals, everything feels wrong.

Great Suspense & Superb Performance
Revisado: 08-08-22
Not only did this story keep moving at a Gallup, the performance of Mela Lee kept me enthralled. One of the best narration performances I’ve heard.

Spectacular
Revisado: 07-19-21
This is one of the most honest and heartfelt memoirs I’ve had the pleasure of listening to. I’ve always been a fan of Sinead O’Connor and her story, memories and explanations give vast background to not only her songs but her life experiences as well. Sinead also clears up rumors and the horrible press coverage that always follows.
There is a tremendous amount of sadness in Sinead’s voice, especially when speaking about her mother, who any fan knows has been a huge part of her tumult. But through all the sadness is a realization that Sinead did everything the way she wanted.
In addition to the sadness, there is a quick and insightful wit that Sinead reveals and I’d love to sit with her for hours and have a laugh.

Historia
In the spring of 2006, a new kind of show premiered on Bravo: The Real Housewives of Orange County. Its stars were tanned, taut, and bedazzled; their homes were echoey California villas; and their drama was gossip-fueled, wine-drenched, and absolutely exquisite. Fifteen seasons on, RHOC is an institution, along with The Real Housewives of New York, Atlanta, New Jersey, Miami, Potomac, and more.

If You’re A Fan
Revisado: 06-07-21
Or should I say if you admit to being a housewives fan. And if you’re not, you’re a liar. Brian’s exuberance and show knowledge made this seem like a great brunch where we had the best discussion. The one where you text your friends afterwards, a few times and over the course of a few days, how fun it was. A nice reprieve from the news of the world.

In the vein of Mary Karr’s Lit, Augusten Burroughs’ Dry, and Sarah Hepola’s Blackout, As Needed for Pain is a raw and riveting - and often wryly funny - addiction memoir from one of New York media’s most accomplished editors which explores his never-before-told story of opioid addiction and the drastic impact it had on his life and career.

As Needed For Sleep
Revisado: 02-15-20
I couldn’t even finish this bloated, self serving and uninteresting memoir. It’s no wonder Details will be remembered for its great design and writing because this unapologetic pos had nothing to do with it. The narrator? Just like Dan Peres skipped work, they must have skipped auditions.
