A soon to be classic!
Revisado: 01-05-23
first off I highly recommend this book and this series! the first book was great... but this book was excellent. you can really experience how much this author has grown during the long pause between books. the characters continue to grow and gain depth and complexity. we get to explore both the above ground and bellow ground world and how they change during the long winter. the story continues to impress, deep characters and fantastic world building make this a soon to be fantasy classic!

A classic "gather your party" Fantasy novel!
Revisado: 07-30-22
First, let me say, this was an awesome book! If you are looking for the classic "Gather your party, there is adventure to be had!" type classic fantasy, you have a solid choice in this book.
Pros:
The characters are memorable and exciting! With in a few pages of meeting each character I felt like they were real. None of them seemed overpowered or naïve to the point of taking me out of the story.
The world is really cool and unique! a striated land of those above ground and those below is already an interesting setting but the addition of a world with seasons that span lifetimes makes the world feel alive in its history and lore.
The magic system is clean and simple; Listen, I love me some hard magic, but sometimes it is nice to just watch wizards through fire balls! There is definitely a deep background to the magic in the world and enough to keep hard magic fans interested but it is also refreshing to see a book where newer listeners won't get bogged down in the magic system
Cons:
There are not many, and most can easily be forgiven when you learn that this is the authors first book.
The pacing is a little fast in areas. I would have loved to learn more about underground rangers, the forge of creation ect. but they seemed to be barely introduced before the party was leaving to new adventures. Again, now that the second book has been announced, it is more clear that the author was trying to set up a world for a much longer story.
There are minor continuity errors but nothing that would take me out of the story.
In closing:
If you are looking for a solid Fantasy novel in a unique setting with characters you care about, you are in the right spot. If you are looking to support indy, self published authors this is the book for you. I have been lucky enough to hear some of the next book and I can say that this is just a little nibble for what is in store!!

Historia
Low-level entertainment lawyer Nick Carter thinks it's a prank, not an alien encounter, when a redheaded mullah and a curvaceous nun show up at his office. But Frampton and Carly are highly advanced (if bumbling) extraterrestrials. And boy, do they have news. The entire cosmos, they tell him, has been hopelessly hooked on humanity's music ever since "Year Zero" (1977 to us), when American pop songs first reached alien ears. This addiction has driven a vast intergalactic society to commit the biggest copyright violation since the Big Bang.

Historia
It has been 20 years since the end of the war. The dictatorial Augurs, once thought of almost as gods, were overthrown and wiped out during the conflict, their much-feared powers mysteriously failing them. Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

Good book excited to see where it goes
Revisado: 01-25-18
it's a good book with a good story but it has a few flaws. there are too many Mysteries that don't get unraveled till way too late in the book that I feel was a little forced. also if I hear inclined their head one more time I'm going to lose my mind. other than that the characters are strong and fun and the story has enough intrigue to keep you interested the whole time. I think as of writing improves over the trilogy it will become better and better as more secrets are answered. definitely going to read the next one.

Historia
The epic and highly anticipated conclusion to the listener-favorite series that had countless Audible listeners (and employees) hooked from the very first Bob - featuring, as always, a flawless performance from the inimitable Ray Porter. Being a sentient spaceship really should be more fun. But after spreading out through space for almost a century, Bob and his clones just can't stay out of trouble. They've created enough colonies so humanity shouldn't go extinct.
