Historia
In the heart of the South Pacific lies Point Nemo, the most desolate and remote place on Earth. At its core is a dead zone, devoid of life, where government agencies crash their obsolete satellites and space stations, confident they won't harm a soul. When the International Space Station suffers a catastrophic failure and plummets through the atmosphere, it's here that Mission Specialist Julie Rohr, an astrobiologist studying living space dust called xylem, finds herself marooned. Julie's only hope for rescue lies in the hands of her estranged father, Dr. Finn Maddern, a renowned mycologist.

One of Jeremy's best books in the last few years
Revisado: 05-07-24
I read most of Jeremy's releases and his newest does not disappoint. While not one of my favorite stories of his, and it does have less surprises than normal, i think his (relative) restraint paid off here. Top 25%-40% of his books. I would definitely recommend.

Historia
From the ashes of a devastated Boston, a harrowing legend emerges. Thirteen years prior, the colossal kaiju, Nemesis, ravaged the city in her relentless pursuit of retribution. Today, mankind's survival teeters on the sacrificial offerings atop a chilling monolith known as The Altar, where the condemned pay the ultimate price to prevent Nemesis's wrath from consuming humanity.

A flawed new look at a fantastic Kaiju
Revisado: 02-23-24
TLDR – I’ve listened to most of Jeremy Robinson’s books for the past few years so trust me when I say if you’re a Jeremy Robinson fan and like Nemesis, you’ll probably want to check this out. If you’re a new reader of Jeremys, maybe check out Project Nemesis, Infinite, the Dark, The Others, or Apocalypse Machine first.
For my full review, let me start off with my positives. R.C. Bray does a great job (Even if I feel his performance toward the end made this feel less gritty and more Exo-Hunter but maybe that was the writing?). Nemesis steals the page when she’s the focus, and I liked the references to the past books. Also, there is one stellar sequence involving someone being forced to fire a shotgun (Might be my favorite part of the book).
Now for the negatives, honestly, more than I’d like to admit.
I think Jeremy is a very talented writer, but Nemesis feels like it highlights his flaws less than his strengths.
So most Jeremy Robinson books are creative, action-packed thrillers that highlight unique and interesting characters. He’s not Adrian Tchaikovsky when it comes to writing a story with grand themes (Though Apocalypse Machine is damn good) or Sarah J. Maas when it comes to worldbuilding, but his stuff is usually always entertaining. Nemesis was just… okay.
Like the characters usually are a treat but here, they just didn’t click. Graham felt the lead from the Others, without the compelling tragedy, that molds into a diet version of the lead of Exo-hunter by the end. Dialogue also felt a bit more juvenile than past books, especially when it came to the villain’s final name, and some characters felt unneeded in the story, like Munk.
Now there is solid action here with exciting set pieces but anytime it features Nemesis, Graham almost feels forced to stand and watch to the benefit of the reader. In the original books, usually there is something else going on or there is a character helping in some way, giving the Kaiju action a plotline to connect to. Here, Graham just stands around because he wants to, or to put himself in danger for no reason, which puts a massive spotlight on that type of flaw.
Final thing I’d like to point out, and by far my biggest issue with most of this book, is the plot. Now, again, Jeremy books are entertainment first. I’ve really come around on Flux for this reason, with the villain’s plot being non-sensical but the execution of the premise being near flawless in it’s creativity, characters, and fun factor. But the holes here are large enough for the titular monster to walk through.
For instance, why do Maigo and Nemesis share ANY connection minus the bond over her father’s attempted murder? In the original, it’s down to the experiment/shared DNA but here, there really isn’t anything else. I really expected Maigo’s mom to be controlling Nemesis over the past 13 years or something (Because the original experiment meant some poor human was bonded with her) but no, she just instinctively knows to bond with Nemesis, even if there is no foundation. It feels like a less-earned version of Book three’s finale. Now I could list other issues, like why the main villain’s cult choose an island, the one and only geographical location that could theoretically stop their plans as their first target instead of just traveling to multiple cities across the globe and infecting themselves at the same time, ensuring Nemesis wouldn’t be able to respond to them all before they grew Kaiju sized, but I think the above are some prime examples.
Nemesis was disappointing, but I’m still looking forward to Jeremy’s next release, as one misstep won't dissuade me from this very talented writer.

A unique and interesting apocalyptic thriller
Revisado: 02-23-24
Edge of Collapse or at least the first three books, feels like a great episode of Law and Order. Like the show, you probably know what to expect of the genre and could guess what will happen throughout an episode or in this case, each book, but you're still thoroughly entertained. For the most part, there really isn't anything crazy or new here like a Jeremy Robinson book nor something more profound like Adrian Tchaikovsky, but Kyla Stone does a great job playing every character or scene to their maximum potential while keeping the feel smaller in scope.
I would definitely recommend and this, and most of the Edge of series (Just need to finish the final book which I will in time).
As for Stacey Glembosky, I thought she did a stellar job.

The epic and highly anticipated conclusion to the listener-favorite series that had countless Audible listeners (and employees) hooked from the very first Bob - featuring, as always, a flawless performance from the inimitable Ray Porter. Being a sentient spaceship really should be more fun. But after spreading out through space for almost a century, Bob and his clones just can't stay out of trouble. They've created enough colonies so humanity shouldn't go extinct.

Sci-Fi Candy for the Ears
Revisado: 02-23-24
Look, is this book high art? No. It's fun, energetic, and deliciously addictive. Binged the whole thing in short order, and I have no faults EXCEPT to point out that his has one of the most lackluster endings to a book I've listened to in quite a while. Why was it lackluster? Because it just... ends. I can't imagine getting this when it first came out. Luckily, that sequel book is out and it's in some ways even better.

Absolutely Wonderful
Revisado: 12-07-22
Listened to this upon recommendation and I finished it within a few days. Of the three primary perspectives of this book, each were fascinating and perfectly paced to not overstay their welcome. Fantastic characters, a satisfying story, and a solid lesson that we should all take to heart. If I had one negative, it would be the narrator. She does a great job but she is hard to understand at a few points.
Overall, I would highly recommend for any avid reader/listener.

Are you ready for an uncertain read?
Revisado: 07-28-22
To keep this review to the point, listened to it in the span of two days and during that time, I can say I was definitely engaged with a fantastic first third but less so as the final third played out. The action is solid, world building phenomenal, R.C. Bray's performance fantastic as always, and I was curious to see how everything wrapped up. What I can say is, for me, the ending didn't exactly land as intended and instead, made me feel like all the running ended up nowhere, leaving me with more questions than satisfying resolutions for which there are a few. For a solid religious themed adventure, I'd highly recommend Apocalypse Machine in this author's catalog as I can't say I'd openly recommend this unless you're willing to look past some flaws you may have.
On a slightly spoilery topic, considering the reference to entities within this title in "The Order", I'm curious to see how this all intermingles because if this hell ends up just being a realm or something explained by science and not actual Hell, then you really have to wonder if Austin's viewpoint, punished in the book, was really that far off...

The Order is fun, fast and kinetic
Revisado: 05-03-22
So as someone who has listened to all the previous Jeremy Robinson books prior to his release, I gotta say I enjoyed The Order, but it wasn't the homerun I was hoping for.
With The Others, Flux & Exo-Hunter as the main hubs of characters for this book, I was excited to see how this one came about. As a brief aside, I think The Others and Flux are absolutely fantastic, and probably my two favorite of the Infinite Timeline. While Exo-Hunter was good, it didn't reach those previous highs. Here, I'd have to say the same.
While Dark Horse, the main lead, evolved throughout the book, I can't say I was as captivated by his journey compared to JR's other books. His action and comedy are top notch though, as are the moments with most characters from The Others & Exo-Hunter. Out of the bunch, The Flux characters seemed to get the short stick here which, for me, was the biggest shame.
Story wise, again, very solid but nothing exceptional. At the end, when JR noted that he was coming up with this on the fly, things began to make more sense. While captivating, heart gripping and exciting at moments, the pace did feel a bit off with a very quick wrap up.
Lastly, performance wise R.C. Bray always does a top notch job, but this was the first book that I noticed a few errors.
So, would I recommend The Order? Absolutely. Its a book with flaws, but I think the positives do outweigh the negatives here by a good bit. The action, comedy, unique characters and premises are all great, but there are elements that keep it from reaching the highs of such a crossover. Excited to see how Khaos continues the story!

Historia
Lost in time, the town of Black Creek, Kentucky becomes home to temporal layers of people, creatures, and monsters from disparate eras. Journey beyond the time of humanity and witness the rewriting of mankind’s genesis. For Owen McCoy, a typical day on the job as head of security for Synergy, a research company conducting mysterious experiments, is boring at best. And that’s the way he likes it. Patrolling the Appalachian mountainside, where his now deceased father taught him how to hunt, is relaxing and connects him to the past.

A great premise and listen with a few flaws
Revisado: 02-18-22
I noticed the negative reviews coming into this book and I braced myself for the worst, but what I found instead was a very entertaining book that I finished in a few days.
I do agree the strongest part of this book is the first third, where the mystery is at its greatest. Characters are solid, but not too memorable compared to the set pieces occurring around them. Action was definitely the highlight here and makes up for a story that does end on a weak note. Lastly, while the performer isn't my favorite on Audible, he does a great job and gives every character a nice touch.
Overall, I'd recommend Flux. Its not a Time Travel story, more a story focused on traveling through time with fantastic action, solid characters and a fantastic non-human antagonist. If you need everything to be absolutely grounded, this is not the book for you, but if you enjoy a book that takes the best elements of a great B-Movie, give Flux a listen!
