First off, love the hosts. They are warm, funny, and know their stuff. This podcast does double-duty for me, satisfying the itch for both true crime stories and a psychological understanding of the people who commit them and the repercussions for the people who are victimized. While it is a bit L.A.-centric, that element of it is by no means an emphasis. The hosts try to cover issues that can pop up in the human sphere any time, any place.

We all hear stories almost daily now about cold cases being solved by investigative genetic genealogy. This new crime-solving tool answers the “who” question about these often decades-old crimes... but what about the why? This podcast will look at crimes solved by genetic genealogy, and examine the connection - if any - between the victim and the killer, and why the crime occurred. Each case is unique, and has its own story behind the headline. Join us for DNA: ID. New episodes will come out every other week on Mondays.

I've loved true crime series and forensics series for a long time, and this podcast really feeds the need to see science--when done right, and law enforcement--when done with conscientiousness--win over human ugliness. DNA and forensic genealogy are such powerful tools, and the stories of the people who get justice and the criminals who face justice after so long are well-told by a host that knows her facts and tells them with heart.

Think you might be in a cult? Want to know the signs? Join Sarah Edmondson and Anthony “Nippy” Ames to talk about things that are..a little bit culty. Or in their case: a whole bunch of culty. As whistleblowers documented in the critically-acclaimed HBO series “The Vow,” Sarah and Nippy have a lot to say about their experience, and burning questions to ask people with similar stories. They’re here to help people understand, heal from, and avoid abusive situations one little red flag at a time. Listen in as they share their stories, have frank and unscripted conversations with other ...

I've never been in a cult (that I'm aware of...), but listening to the guests on this show and the hosts, I have come to believe that cults are what happens when the normal human need for belonging and meaning meets the (alas) all-too-common traits of narcissism and the need to control. Recognizing that a group you belong to or a relationship you're in is abusive is a skill we should all have, and the hosts are doing a great service--and making it entertaining and a safe space.

So excited to find this
Revisado: 01-22-23
I always try to catch Mark on other people's podcasts, but how awesome is it he has one of his own? I especially like his exploration of how trauma has effected him (and everyone who has experienced it) in his journey as an artist/creative. Helpful insights.

Historia
Late at night inside the two-person Dragon spacecraft resting on the frozen surface of Saturn’s moon Enceladus, Derya Terzi put on headphones and became the first Earthling to hear the sloshing of the enormous subsurface ocean beneath his feet. Intoxicated with the promise of discovery, he could have sworn it was whispers between inscrutable creatures of the deep. He was convinced they were days away from settling the most profound and existential mystery known to humanity: are we alone in the universe?

Frigging AMAZING
Revisado: 09-11-19
I rarely give five stars to books because five stars is all we get, with nothing in between, and you have to save the five for the life-changers. This is why I give books I really like four stars: to save the fives for books like this.
I read the audio version, and it was a little disorienting at first--having a narrator and also having actors read the parts that were characters’ thoughts. Once I got used to it, though, it was no problem. Probably the only issue I have with this book is non-American characters who think in Imperial units instead of metric. That threw me out of the story every time it happened.
Reviews I read praised this book as a “hard science fiction” treatment of a contemporary trip to Saturn, which is exactly what it is. I am always wary of hard science fiction books, however, because, though the realism of such books makes it easier to believe “this could really happen,” most hard science fiction excels at physics and astronomy and fails colossally at psychology and sociology, and occasionally even biology. That is not the case with this book. This gets the souls of the characters and the you-are-there of the politics and popular reaction spot on. A great read for those of us itching to get humanity back to space.
