Historia
High school senior Andrew Perrault finds refuge in the twisted fairy tales that he writes for the only person who can ground him to reality—Thomas Rye, the boy with perpetually ink-stained hands and hair like autumn leaves. And with his twin sister, Dove, inexplicably keeping him at a cold distance upon their return to Wickwood Academy, Andrew finds himself leaning on his friend even more. But something strange is going on with Thomas. His abusive parents have mysteriously vanished, and he arrives at school with blood on his sleeve.

Boring weird adolescent writing
Revisado: 03-06-25
I did not like the characters, the constant gory fantasy, the tortured teen romantic longing, the major unanswered plot questions….and the writing seemed very 10th grade male. Just a waste of time

Terrific narration and interesting story
Revisado: 11-04-24
The narration is incredible. Voices, tone, pauses.. believable and differentiated perfectly. The story is uneven but interesting… the ending isn’t very satisfying but it had to end somewhere. The best parts were in the beginning before they realized an important fact. Interesting twist on a Groundhog Day in sci-fi, but I wish the female had been more likable and it had been edited more. Great narration kept me listening through a 9 hour car trip.

The child voice was unbearable, ok story
Revisado: 10-31-24
The story was ok and the characters were cozy likeable but the narrator’s voice for the child was excruciating to listen to. Thankfully there was less of the child voice after the first half. I liked the southern charm of the characters, which was enjoyable to listen to while doing housework. The big reveal was obvious, but the story was more about the town and nice people than a big mystery.

Started well then turned into a cozy
Revisado: 10-31-24
The book started really well and then turned into a cozy story full of shopping and house remodeling and pretty uninteresting characters. It made my life feel very eventful. Might be a good listen someone who needs a mindless audio while doing dishes or laundry or cleaning .

Historia
On May 1, 1915, with WWI entering its tenth month, a luxury ocean liner as richly appointed as an English country house sailed out of New York, bound for Liverpool, carrying a record number of children and infants. The passengers were surprisingly at ease, even though Germany had declared the seas around Britain to be a war zone. For months, German U-boats had brought terror to the North Atlantic.

Personal accounts of Lusitania experience
Revisado: 10-28-24
I enjoyed learning more about this important event in history and I liked that it was personalized with so many stories of people and their families. I think history narration like this must be very difficult— you don’t want it dry and monotone but you don’t want it read like an emotional melodrama. The narrator very often was heavily emotive and it was almost laughable at times, cringe-worthy at others. He can’t read a sentence without a breathy weight to his voice. I think I might have preferred reading this as a book, which is quite dramatic enough as it is written.

Historia
1950: Margaret Devonshire (Megs) is a 17-year-old student of mathematics and physics at Oxford University. When her beloved eight-year-old brother asks Megs if Narnia is real, logical Megs tells him it’s just a book for children, and certainly not true. Homebound due to his illness, and remaining fixated on his favorite books, George presses her to ask the author of the recently released novel The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe a question: “Where did Narnia come from?”

Brilliant reading and wonderful story
Revisado: 10-04-24
This is such a lovely book - and the reading was absolutely wonderful. I chose this book for a long ride from Massachusetts to Delaware and I was completely in it the whole trip. I remembered the magic of the original story and how it made me feel as a child… and it made me rethink the power of fairytales and storytelling through the story of really kind people. I’m a bit tired of reading about murders and crime and mean people, and it was so enjoyable to enter a world where people were doing the best they could, and tied in to famous stories and well known people and places. As a writer, I kept pausing the story to think a bit on what was said… and then reflecting a bit.
I really don’t know how anyone could not enjoy this audiobook, especially if they are a fan of the Narnia Chronicles, CS Lewis in general or story writing. Must confess, I cried at the end, but it really was a joy to listen to.

Compelling and then a complete mess
Revisado: 09-25-24
It started off with interesting characters and a surprising storyline and then became a huge mess! The main character becomes a bank thief? So many many many unlikely scenarios that frankly were so incomprehensible I had to google the plot to see what the heck happened! Also, the writer does not understand what a chapter means. It is not a paragraph. By the end it was like 250 “chapters”. Where was the editor? This is one mess from start to finish. It is a shame as there are some gems in the mess, but by the end it was ridiculous.

Boring story but well researched
Revisado: 05-01-24
I liked learning about someone I didn’t know anything about but in this case there was too much detail with uninteresting facts. It could have been a much better read if it was edited by half. The reader did the best he could but he couldn’t make it interesting however hard he tried.

Ridiculous teen fantasy light porn
Revisado: 05-01-24
The concept was a fun riff on Greek gods in modern time, remix on the Persephone and Hades myth. The result was poorly written novel with stereotypical characters and insipid sexual interactions. She is a silly young girl and he is a major god. Ofcourse she is a virgin and he wants her desperately… not believable and just embarrassing. It is just awful from start to finish.
