Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

The full human experience
Revisado: 04-30-20
I adore all things french history. But I often find it is hard to find a good book about France in World War II that really covers the entire country. This book gives nuanced life to what it meant to be two women in France during World War II. You will laugh, cry, be devastated, and built back together again. Lots of twists and turns that will keep you listening for hours. If you’re unsure as to whether this book is for you, I would encourage you to go ahead and get it!
Books it’s similar to: All the light we cannot see (though I liked this better), A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, The Book Thief.

Great story
Revisado: 11-15-18
Overall I really loved this book. I haven’t gotten this emotionally wrapped up in a book since the Harry Potter series. Very historically accurate and such a soaring love story in the background of a grim Siberia. While I love all the characters she creates, there are a few things I found odd. 1. She gives Hodel an accent but not many of the other characters. !SPOILER AHEAD! After the death of a major character, I don’t feel like the book wrapped up emotionally. My heart was still bleeding from the death and the book wrapped up a page or two later. So that was very disappointing as a reader to have that left unresolved. !END OF SPOILER! But overall it’s a great book and worth the journey

At first I was concerned about buying this book. After all, it being in Poland during World War Two doesn’t give hope to an optimistic ending. But I was absolutely captivated by the Korc’s story. It was gripping, thrilling, heartbreaking, and inspiring. You won’t be able to stop listening once you’ve started.
