Historia
When Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert of Green Gables, Prince Edward Island, send for a boy orphan to help them out at the farm, they are in no way prepared for the error that will change their lives. The mistake takes the shape of Anne Shirley, a redheaded 11-year-old girl who can talk anyone under the table. Fortunately, her sunny nature and quirky imagination quickly win over her reluctant foster parents. Anne's feisty spirit soon draws many friends - and much trouble - her way.

This classic holds up well.

I’ve gotten “Anne of Green Gables” for my 8 year old granddaughter and am looking forward to seeing how well she likes it. Among her favorites are Harry Potter, Cat Warriors, and Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

Historia
How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

Hard to Listen
Revisado: 12-22-19
I love all the Malcolm Gladwell books -- except this one. Because Malcolm Gladwell is my favorite author, I preordered both the digital and the audio, even signing up for Audible to do it.
This book let me down. I found the music interludes following the chapters jarring. It was loud and nothing I'd ever choose to hear. I found the images he portrays disturbing and often gruesome. And with it all, I'm not sure I learned a lot from his insights this time.
Also, the paperback, the hard back, and the Kindle are the same price. Since the Kindle has a near-zero unit price -- the cost of sending out one more copy -- and the Kindle saves trees, it should be cheaper than the other two. It is not.
Disappointed.

Historia
After two years of waiting to adopt - slogging through paperwork and bouncing between hope and despair - a miracle finally happened for Vanessa McGrady. Her sweet baby, Grace, was a dream come true. Then Vanessa made a highly uncommon gesture: when Grace’s biological parents became homeless, Vanessa invited them to stay. Without a blueprint for navigating the practical basics of an open adoption or any discussion of expectations or boundaries, the unusual living arrangement became a bottomless well of conflicting emotions and increasingly difficult decisions.

Well Written
Revisado: 06-17-19
In ”Rock Needs River”, Vanessa McGrady describes her experiences surrounding their adoption of Grace. Had no idea the complexities of adoption!
Her story is compelling. I recommend it for anyone who was adopted, contemplates adoption, wants to put a child up for adoption, or knows anyone like that.

Technical too technical and story too anecdotal
Revisado: 03-17-17
From the title, I thought I'd get an individualized program based on research, but the book was about how exercise and meditation slowly changed a fat jerk into a fit and happier person.
The technical information seemed to be mostly about which parts of the brain were activate when. Without illustrations (at least in the audio version) I couldn't follow which specific parts of the brain were which (and I've taken physiology.)
The proof reading was good, and I did listen to the whole story, but I didn't find the useful information about healthy brains very dense.
