Good little psy read
Revisado: 03-26-25
There were parts that were unpredictable, but there are also giant logic gaps as most things me bending books have. Not a bad, quick read though that leaves you second guessing inherent natures of self.

Historia
In The Power, the world is a recognizable place: There's a rich Nigerian boy who lounges around the family pool; a foster kid whose religious parents hide their true nature; an ambitious American politician; a tough London girl from a tricky family. But then a vital new force takes root and flourishes, causing their lives to converge with devastating effect. Teenage girls now have immense physical power: They can cause agonizing pain and even death. And, with this small twist of nature, the world drastically resets.

Shallow power struggle with no real impact
Revisado: 02-16-25
The Power had an intriguing concept of shifting gender power dynamics, but it ultimately felt shallow and underwhelming. The story was more like a sensationalized drama than a though-provoking dystopian novel, with underdeveloped characters driven purely by a thirst for power and no meaningful growth. The abrupt ending, reframing the story as a factionalized past, only added to my disappointment. I was hoping for a compelling exploration of societal collapse, gender power shift and character driven struggles, but this book didn’t deliver. I regret purchasing the audiobook.

Conflict of consciousness not sci fi
Revisado: 12-29-24
It was an okay story, nothing exciting, nothing that sticks with a reader. Has less to do with Sci Fi as it is a moral conflict of right and wrong. It filled my ears when I needed but wasn’t worth keeping around.

Good for background listening
Revisado: 12-23-24
It wasn’t bad per say, just unexciting with minimal plot. I didn’t feel a passage of time until they specifically said “100s of years together”. It runs together never getting exciting or slow. I put it on in the background while doing something monotonous.

Historia
In the world of Warbreaker, each person is born endowed with the power of one Breath―which can be sold and collected by others, then used to Awaken objects and even corpses to do their bidding. A few individuals who die in glory return as gods, with the power of thousands of Breath, but no memory of their mortal lives―and are enthroned in the Court of Gods in Hallandren’s capital. To Vivenna and Siri, princesses of Idris, the abuse of Breath and the claim of the Returned to be gods are repugnant blasphemy.

I was intrigued by the inner conflict as much as the story line.
Revisado: 03-22-24
Each character was multi dimensionally developing, the drama was as much cheering for the self discovery of each character as it was enjoying the vivid story line progress.

Historia
For weeks, he stood by my side, twisting his words into pretty half-truths. He enraptured me with his smooth temptation, leaving no corner of my being untouched. He consumed my mind and my body, then finally claimed my heart for himself. But Caelum’s true identity is terrifying enough to bring me to my knees. Then, I discovered the truth of who he is. Caldris is whispered in the Nothrek wind. The legend we only speak of with hushed words, in shuttered rooms, for fear of drawing his wrath once again.

Shallow female characters, massive toxic sex scenes. There is a lot of toxic relationship parts. Glad it was free, I would never pay for this. Probably will never reread.

Historia
The occasion was a big birthday. And it inspired two close friends to get together in Dharamsala for a talk about something very important to them. The friends were His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. The subject was joy. Both winners of the Nobel Prize, both great spiritual masters and moral leaders of our time, they are also known for being among the most infectiously happy people on the planet.

Excellent! I've re-listened 3 times already.
Revisado: 05-12-22
Even better than I expected. The world needs more of this. I enjoyed the narrators that read the spoken parts from either His holiness or the Archbishop, it helped with the flow beautifully. The progression of the message is beautiful. A truly human, candid, honest, heartbreaking, heartwarming, intimate moment with two of the greatest leaders that humanity has seen.

Huge Lackey fan, this did not satisfy
Revisado: 12-18-21
I love Lackey's works, so I bought this one without even thinking. Love her Valdemar Series, as well as the Elemental Masters series. I honestly thought based on the title that this was one of fairy tale classic spin off books that Lackey is really good at writing. I could not sink into this one. I felt that the story dragged on and on, with the main character training, and saving her sister, training and saving her sister and training again. Things finally picked up towards the end, but it didn't leave me with the inner satisfaction of having been transported into a new world that is a break from the current one. I found myself checking the clock multiple times "how much longer?" The character development was minimal I felt, little true adversary and evolvement.
The narrator was absolutely fantastic.

Revisado: 11-23-21
I have loved Lackey's books for years and years, but struggled through the latest Valdemar star: Mags. I didn't finish his series, and shrugged it off. Found this one, and have fallen back in love with Valdemar. <3 If you are a classic Valdemar fan, this doesn't disappoint. I enjoyed the character development, and I love following the very beginning of such a beloved world.

No depth, superficial, I just couldn’t even finish it. One of those stories where things just happen to line up so the youth can rise up and be the hero even when making mistake and being new at things.
