Historia
Fasting is a beautiful journey with the Lord that has blessed many people. Our Lord calls us into a life-giving relationship with Him, and through fasting we are able to lay aside the things that keep us from an intimate relationship with the Lord. Daniel provides an example of consecration—the setting apart of oneself—that will empower you to experience greater freedom. This book will be a tool you can use to guide you in the practice of fasting and the Daniel Fast, while leading you to greater love for, and intimacy with, the Lord.

This devotional was right on time
Revisado: 01-30-25
I felt like this devotional found me at the appointed time. It’s been a very long time since I was this determined to complete a longer fast. I don’t think I’ve ever done a Daniel fast. I needed this time to recommit and be more intentional on a fast.
This book helped me most at the start of the fast to get focused about the “why” behind my commitment. She is an excellent storyteller. I looked forward to listening every day. Having a scripture text and questions for reflection provided each day was helpful.
Many of her stories were about how she was wronged by others or how she confronted someone for their lack of spiritual maturity. She mentions her missteps with obedience. It did become repetitive at times.
Overall, if you need help with the “why” for your fast and guidance for the Daniel fast, I recommend this devotional.

Living in a broken world gives us plenty of reasons to armor up, shut down, and numb out. But God wants more for us than just getting by. When we harden ourselves to the world, we not only close ourselves off from the good things God intends for us, but close off avenues God wants to work through in others' lives as well.

Very timely and biblically sound
Revisado: 10-11-24
This book came to me at the right time. It helped me get to the root of exactly what I’ve been feeling and experiencing in this season. The hardness of my heart has come from the pain of feeling like an outsider in my church community and realizing someone I thought was a friend is not.
The connection to the scriptures gave this a depth I really needed. I’ve listened to the Job Equation chapter no less than 3 times. I devoured her words and wisdom because they were like a balm to my soul. I prayed and cried through this book. I plan to slow down and listen all the way through again.
If you feel wounded by relationships and you’re struggling to find peace in your heart and mind, I recommend this book. It’s a gift.

Historia
Filled with sharply drawn, emotionally powerful senses, Walk Through Fire traces the hardships Sheila faced in her marriage and her professional life. Despite her skills as a violinist and music teacher, as well as her obvious entrepreneurial talent, she had to fight to overcome self-doubt and fears of failure. Sheila vividly details her struggles, including battling institutional racism, losing a child, suffering emotional abuse in her thirty-three-year marriage, and plunging into a deep depression with her divorce. And yet, out of that pain came renewed purpose and meaning.

I didn’t know anything about Sheila before this book. Her resilience and her brilliance are inspiring. The story telling in this book is top notch. I enjoyed learning from her and look forward to one day vacationing at the Salamander Resort and Spa.

Revisado: 12-01-23
Esau’s telling of his family history through his eyes was captivating. It brought tears to my eyes and reminded me of the power of our stories. He so beautifully captured and honored the Southern experience of living in a black body. Thank you for this gift to the world. I enjoyed every minute.

My family really enjoyed this book!
Revisado: 10-12-18
Listening to audiobooks with our 3 kids on road trips is a family tradition. As our kids are getting older, it’s harder to find books that appeal to their different age ranges and genders. I also wanted a modern story about black children that wasn’t set during slavery or civil rights movement. We’ve listened to several excellent historical fiction books (Bud Not Buddy and Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, we all enjoyed) and I wanted to give another genre a try. I looked for a book that would hold the attention of my 15 year old son, 17 year old daughter and 9 year old son.
This book was excellent! We enjoyed the narration as much as the story. I highly recommend this book. Looking forward to more by the author.
