Historia
Gender identity ideology is about more than Twitter storms and using the right pronouns. In just 10 years, laws, company policies, school and university curricula, sport, medical protocols, and the media have been reshaped to privilege self-declared gender identity over biological sex. People are being shamed and silenced for attempting to understand the consequences of redefining "man" and "woman". While compassion for transgender lives is well-intentioned, it is stifling much-needed inquiry into the significance of our bodies.

Enlightening
Revisado: 07-02-23
Amazing book. The problem is Americans have embraced comfortable and popular fallacies and have less than zero interest in nuance and verifiable facts. America is leading the world in becoming like the Capital folks in Hunger Games.

During the disastrous Allied retreat north following the fall of Warsaw, a small group of American infantry from the 10th Mountain Division are cut off from the rest of their company while fighting a desperate rear-guard action. Abandoned and surrounded by Russians, Lieutenant Simon McLane and a handful of soldiers are aided in their escape by a Troop of British Challenger 2 tanks from the Royal Tank Regiment. The tankers and infantrymen forge an unlikely alliance as they fight their way toward Gdansk.

Entertaining book. Well performed.
Revisado: 09-11-22
Good military fiction series. Entertaining and keeps one’s attention. However, this series could also be characterized as fantasy fiction b/c it consistently portrays the Russian military as motivated, well trained, well armed and well led. Portraying the Russian army as competent is more fiction than Lord of the Rings.

Historia
The Good Soldier Švejk, written shortly after the First World War, is one of the great antiwar satires - and one of the funniest books of the 20th (or any) century. In creating his eponymous hero, Jaroslav Hašek produced an unforgettable character who charms and infuriates and bamboozles his way through the conflagration that tore through the heart of Europe, upending empires and changing social history. It is the closing period of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The assassination at Sarajevo has just occurred and armies are on the march.

Funny, smart.

What a great story. Funny, poignant and thoroughly enjoyable. Worth the time and the credit. Going to re-listen to the Otto Prohaska series by Higgins. Who knew the topic of WWI Austrian soldiers could be so funny.

Best series I've encountered in a great while.
Revisado: 12-20-15
The Raven series is in the same class as the best of Iggulden, Sidebottom, Scarrow, Pressfield, Fabbri, or Archer. Fans of historical fiction will be rewarded with a simply kick-ass story. Worth your time and money.

Was New Year Island worth the listening time?
Not worth the time commitment. The story is simply one deus ex machina after another.
