Historia
In 1989 Ken Follett astonished the literary world with The Pillars of the Earth, set in 12th-century England. Readers and listeners ever since have hoped for a sequel. At last, here it is. Although the two novels may be listened to in any order, World Without End also takes place in Kingsbridge, two centuries after the townspeople finished building their exquisite Gothic cathedral. The cathedral is again at the center of a web of love and hate, greed and pride, ambition and revenge.

Not that much happening for such a long story. The imposition of modern social issues upon 14th century characters is a little strained.

Historia
Abandoned pregnant and penniless on the teeming streets of London, 16-year-old Amber St. Clare manages, by using her wits, beauty, and courage, to climb to the highest position a woman could achieve in Restoration England - that of favorite mistress of the Merry Monarch, Charles II. From whores and highwaymen to courtiers and noblemen, from events such as the Great Plague and the Fire of London to the intimate passions of ordinary - and extraordinary - men and women, Amber experiences it all.

17th century "Gone With the Wind"
Revisado: 04-19-23
I like historical fiction and was curious about this confusing era. However, the story was way to long and the main character's obsession with her "bad boy" grew tedious after the first 10 or 15 hours. The British aristocracy became pretty tedious as well. What a bunch of fops. I don't know who or what to blame for my dissatisfaction with the book. The characters in the story were disgusting, but maybe that is just a very good portrayal by the author. After all those hours listening to the story, I'm still confused about the era.

Historia
Smedley Butler was the most celebrated warfighter of his time. Best-selling books were written about him. Hollywood adored him. Wherever the flag went, “The Fighting Quaker” went - serving in nearly every major overseas conflict from the Spanish War of 1898 until the eve of World War II.

A good history of how we’ve gotten to where we are
Revisado: 01-29-22
I had hoped I could find a little wisdom and guidance in this biography, but it seems Smedley was as perplexed as the rest of us about living in the belly of the monster. The author does a good job of tracing the events Smedley was involved in down to the predicaments we find ourselves in today.

Historia
Tornadoes, cyclones, tsunamis… Weather can be deadly – especially when it strikes without warning. Millions of Americans could soon find themselves at the mercy of violent weather if the public data behind lifesaving storm alerts gets privatized for personal gain. In his first Audible Original feature, New York Times best-selling author and journalist Michael Lewis delivers hard-hitting research on not-so-random weather data – and how Washington plans to release it.

My father was one of the weathermen that worked out tracking tornados on radar and later worked on the team that developed computer models for the weather. It was an international effort encompassing decades and billions of dollars in public funds. Attempts to privatize things like this can only lead to disaster and must be exposed.

Starts out like a prequel, providing historical background for some of the characters in the other books, but the rest is just repeats from parts of the previous books. I can't imagine why anyone would want to listen to this.

Weak story
Revisado: 03-02-13
The performances were excellent. There were lots of interesting characters, good dialogue, and graphic descriptions. A bit to much of the latter. Christians against Mongols was the main theme and it was interesting but, we already know how that turned out. The other stuff, Popes and cardinals, witches and urchins, and warrior nuns, seemed pointless and unrelated. History wise, I come away wondering what to believe. That may be a good thing.
