Historia
At some point in nearly every marriage, a wife finds herself asking, "What is wrong with my husband?!" In David Finch's case, this turns out to be an apt question. Five years after he married Kristen, the love of his life, they learn that he has Asperger syndrome. The diagnosis explains David's ever-growing list of quirks and compulsions, his lifelong propensity to quack and otherwise melt down in social exchanges, and his clinical-strength inflexibility. But it doesn't make him any easier to live with.

Love or Perfect? That is the question
Revisado: 03-29-24
I absolutely love the humor of the text and performance of this reading. Great Insights into Aspergers and Relationship generally. If only every partner were this intentional and this proactive. So many more relationships would evolve and thrive. I am struck by the work that all partners have to do to communicate explicitly and choose to love. Nobody's a mind reader and Love isn't just a magical miracle. What I love about this book is it reminds me that every relationship is unique and every individual in relationship has a right to be. When the author described how difficult it was to overcome expectations of his idea of the perfect wife, I felt like this is a universal challenge that most people never overcome. Thanks to the gift of Aspergers and the focused genius that comes with it, this husband did. He chose to use Self-ism to his advantage, focus on his own shortcomings and start there. Of course we can always do better. There will always be somebody better for each of us, but Love is a choice. It begs the question, when do you stop chasing perfect and choose Love instead?

Historia
What is autism: a lifelong disability or a naturally occurring form of cognitive difference akin to certain forms of genius? In truth, it is both of these things and more - and the future of our society depends on our understanding it. Wired reporter Steve Silberman unearths the secret history of autism, long suppressed by the same clinicians who became famous for discovering it, and finds surprising answers to the crucial question of why the number of diagnoses has soared in recent years.

Comprehensive Survey and Persuasive Paradigm Shift
Revisado: 03-12-24
Neurotribes addresses the legacy of autism and the expanding discourse around nuerodiversity. It's a comprehensive survey that goes back to the origins of the Asperger and Connor studies in the mid-1900's. It also points to some earlier case studies and the usefulness of shifting away from pathology to disability and ultimately toward super ability. Powerful case for compassion and curiosity. If only I possessed the same focus, tenacity, self determination, and inventiveness. I am hopeful.

Foundational work for anxious/avoidant Pairs
Revisado: 01-11-23
This is a fabulous book. Way ahead of its time. Seems to form the pioneering foundation work for all of the anxious and avoidant adult attachment work and books that are current, such as Attached and Us. Offers some great practical and cognitive behavioral tools. As well as a completely new paradigm.

Feel like you don’t belong? You’re not alone. The world has never been more connected, yet people are lonelier than ever. Whether we feel unworthy, alienated, or anxious about our place in the world, the absence of belonging is the great silent wound of our times. Most people think of belonging as a mythical place, and they spend a lifetime searching for it in vain. But what if belonging isn’t a place at all? What if it’s a skill that has been lost or forgotten? With her signature depth and eloquence, Toko-pa maps a path to belonging from the inside out.

Revisado: 08-27-21
This is such a great book that discusses some of the early childhood wounding and how that can lead to no attachment wounds and rejectionism. This is a beautiful guide guidebook through that process of isolation and overwhelm to belonging to yourself and ultimately belonging to community if that serves. She talks about the beauty and power of dreamwork as well as connecting with the stories of our ancestors. It's the pathway from abandonment rejection and detachment to independence and ultimately interdependence that gives us the strength and sustainability to live a fulfilling and love full life. Beautiful.

Letting Go describes a simple and effective means by which to let go of the obstacles to enlightenment and become free of negativity. During the many decades of the author's clinical psychiatric practice, the primary aim was to seek the most effective ways to relieve human suffering in all of its many forms. The inner mechanism of surrender was found to be of great practical benefit and is described in this book.

Challenging but undenianle
Revisado: 08-11-21
This is definitely an arduous read not for the faint of heart not for those who aren't spiritually inclined. But you can bring your own history and traumatic experience and feeling to this and realize it's quite affirming as well as quite a demanding ask. Three phrases come to mind and juxtapose themselves. I am. The power of now. The compassion of Presence. Remarkable that we have this capacity to transcend. Remarkable that we are divinity itself. In my mind letting go is simply developing enough presence and capacity to let be. To feel all that you must feel in order to know what you must know. The ultimate realization being the illusion of the ego and the illusion of suffering. This book demonstrates our tendencies to create false cognition's, negative and limiting beliefs as well as our capacity to let them go. It brought to mind to me the undeniable truth of our infinite value despite the mathematical less than signs that get stamped on our faces. Just as Jesus embodied and tried to teach us all, or the Buddhist monks alighting themselves in 1960s Vietnam, I am that I am. You are that you are. Here and now and forever.

Finally! From dysfunction to joy
Revisado: 11-04-20
This is a powerful and authentic read that addresses the roots of parenting dysfunction and provides avenues to parenting bliss. very adept and practical discussions that are not a one-size-fits-all that gives you the tools to discover and recognize your own needs and desires and the tools to achieve them. Very respectful of both parents and children in the process of being human. I love the quotes and references to other works on shame. . I also see a real powerful connection between shame and trauma work, another root-based approach to addressing parental dysfunction and finding ways to enter a peaceful and calm and joyful realm of adults hood and Parenthood. However you don't need to consciously understand trauma or be involved in trauma work to benefit from the tools of shame proof parenting. Eell done.

Great summary of the four horsemen and Solutions
Revisado: 10-02-20
It's really nice to have the summary of why marriages succeed and fail. What I like about this is that it goes into the positive offsets that he has researched. You don't get quite the same perspective in why marriage is 16 and fell. This seems to build on those principles and offer some practical solutions/endeavors. Nice it is short You can share the principles with others without requiring too much time.
