I thought the first book (Heart of Blood and Ashes) was the best Audible book of 2020. Impossibly, this book even better than the first installment, certainly hotter. The world-building is excellent and thoughtful. For that reason, this is not a series you can read out-of-order, but it is well worth the credits. The story is focused on romance, but the adventure/ quest propels the storyline in a natural, believable way.

I LOVE Ruby Dixon. If you like paranormal romance, she is like fresh air in a repetitive genre. Her main character is always relatable and funny. This series is kind of like Kristen Ashley's Rising series with hotter sex.
Sworn to the Shadow God provides more of world-building than Book 1 that is woven into the romance. The male lead is a different aspect, and the story takes place is new cities within Eos. The female lead is a virgin (ugh), but not in an annoying way at all. The book is definitely worth a credit.

Main Character Drags

I usually love Dannika Dark's writing, but the main character was a drag. She was brought down by the circumstances of her life, uninspired, and pessimistic. It was difficult to get past her internal monologues. Poole did an amazing job as always.

If you like your romance served with character development, this book is for you. Totally worth the credit, BUT wait till Book 2 is released. The book ends with a cliff hanger that won't leave you satisfied.
