Historia
Laura Dern and Diane Ladd always had a close relationship, but the stakes were raised when Diane developed a sudden life-threatening illness. Diane’s doctor prescribed long walks to build back her lung capacity. The exertion was challenging, and Laura soon learned the best way to distract her mom was to get her talking and telling stories. Their conversations along the way began to break down the traditional barriers between mothers and daughters.

Historia
January 1910. A journalist has been killed in a suspicious blaze. Everything points to a group of suffragettes, but the apparent culprit insists she is innocent. When Lady Hardcastle receives a letter from a suffragette requesting her urgent help, the retired spy turned sleuth knows only she stands between an accused young woman and the gallows. Evidence at the scene makes Lizzie Worrel’s innocence difficult to believe, and with the police treating it as an open-and-shut case of arson, Lady Hardcastle faces a barrage of resistance as she tries to dig out the truth.

her voice alone is worth the listen! what an amazing life (so far as it was covered in this book). Sure hoping she writes more about her life, picking up where she left off-you still so much to share Julie!

Not a typical Elm Creek story
Revisado: 07-14-18
Serious topic covered in this one. was looking for the more typical lighter fare... but the story is well told. just very serious topic if slavery in the south... very adult content.

good old Elm Creek.
Revisado: 02-25-18
some good story lines, however a few female characters lacked backbone and self esteem to a point where they felt so simpy and frustratingly naive, especially compared to the strong females running Elm Creek. Not my favorite of the series.

Different from the others in the series.
Revisado: 02-15-17
What was one of the most memorable moments of Runaway Quilt?
The memoir that was found - it had me on the edge of my seat - really intense story.
If you could take any character from Runaway Quilt out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Sylvia. She is strong, steadfast and a bit stuck in her ways. She reminds me of many of my elders. I love that these stories are set in rural Pennsylvania where 99% of my relatives still live. There is a nice connection there.
Any additional comments?
A real surprise is the mention of Santa Cruz in several of the stories. I live near Santa Cruz of all places and then the connection to rural PA where the rest of our relatives still live. What an incredible coincidence, it really brought the story "home" for me. The one downside of this book was the way the narrator "read" the memoir. It was not great, more like someone reading to a child. It did not have a "voice" that fit the story and I found it irritating for 3/4 of the memoir reading. Towards the end it seemed to shift to a voice that matched the writer. All in all, this story was really compelling, I loved the historical links!
