Amelia is well-known for her bread pudding. One day, a customer comes in to try it and drops dead. Amelia, her cat Pudding, and friend, Mason, are investigating and find secrets and more secrets. Pudding was the star for finding loose floorboards and hidden rooms. The writing style was a bit over-dramatic for me, but that is a personal preference. There were also a lot of phrases that seemed over used. When it stands out because I hear things like her blood running cold so often, I find it distracting. If those things don’t bother you, you’ll probably love this book.

I listened to the audio version and the narrator did a great job differentiating the characters.

Bells, Tails & Murder is book #1 in the Dickens & Christie Mystery series by Kathy Manos Penn. The audiobook is narrated by Alex Picard.

Leta Parker is a recent widow who retired in Atlanta, Georgia and moved to the Cotswolds in England with her cat, Christie, and dog, Dickens. Leta has the ability to understand animals which she keeps a secret. Christie is a bitty sassy which is what I would think my cats would sound like. Dickens is a sweetheart. The characters are likable and well-developed. The murder mystery was interesting and I enjoyed the wrap-up. I loved the storyline about the old books and letters.

Alex Picard did a great job narrating. It was easy to identify the various characters.

Thank you to the author, Tantor Audio, and NetGalley for the offer of an Advanced Listener Copy (ALC) copy of this book. I failed to download it before it was archived but I was so interested in it that I purchased a copy on release day. This is my honest review.

The Laird of Drumlychtoun is the first book in the Ian Skair: Private Investigator series by Hilary Pugh and narrated by Charles Robert Fox.

Ian Skair is a former police office who is now a private investigator who shares a house with his little dog, Lottie. The Laird of Drumlychtoun has a matter that he wants Ian to look into and that starts off quite an investigation. There are quite a few twists as the investigation progresses and it is much more than just locating a missing person.

I’d already read the book and enjoyed it, but I really liked the audiobook. The narrator’s accent really pulled me in along with hearing the correct pronunciation of words that I’d mangled when reading.

Guilty as Framed is book #11 in the Anastasia Pollack Crafting Mystery series by Lois Winston. Narrated by Alexandra Bitton-Bailey.

Anastasia is picking out tile for her home remodel when a stranger tries to barge into her house looking for someone she doesn’t know. It’s the first in a string of odd happenings and dead bodies she has to deal with. I’m so happy the dog has gotten away from Anastasia’s crazy mother-in-law. This was an interesting mystery. I guessed the guilty party early on but had no idea how complicated this mystery would be. The ending was sweet.

I enjoyed the narration by Alexandra Bitton-Bailey. I plan to listen to more books in this series.

A Weekend Getaway, Another Murder is book #10 in the Sheridan Hendley Mystery series by Christa Nardi. Audiobook narrated by Alyssa Baumann.

Sheridan and Brett plan a quiet getaway that turns out to be anything but quiet. A little dog finds them and leads them to a crime scene. This was a chilling case with a couple of surprise characters. I listened to the audiobook and the narration was excellent. I had no trouble distinguishing who she was voicing. I’ve read most of the books, but I’ll be listening from the beginning.

Christmas at Baskerville Hall is book #15 in the Sherlock and Lucy Mystery series by Charles Veley and Anna Elliott.

This was an entertaining story. I’ve read several of the books, but this was my first time listening to one and I really enjoyed it. A holiday getaway with murder and an incident that puts lives in jeopardy. Lucy and Sherlock need to solve the mystery in order to have a Merry Christmas.

The narration was easy to listen to and I didn’t have any trouble differentiating between characters.

Don't Judge a Book by Its Hover: Case 1: Bookshop Con is book #1 in the Witchy Expo Services Mysteries series by Amy McNulty.

Nimue Toothaker’s grandmother retires and names her nemesis, Ren Southern Co-Head General Managers of Witchy Expo Services. In their first Expo, a famous author dies. Nimue needs to find out if it was an accident or murder because the whole town depends on the success of Bookshop Con.

I haven’t read anything like this where witches and warlocks have conventions for humans. Having the first book be about a bookshop convention was fun. It’s an interesting cast of characters and the fact that they have to work together to make the Expos a success is an intriguing twist.

The narrator is good, just seems like she draws out the last word of a sentence and it is a bit distracting.

Wine and Dead, Another Murder is book #5 in the Sheridan Hendley Mystery series by Christa Nardi. Audible version narrated by Jeanne Pilgrim Mayo.

There’s a murder and some grape vines have been poisoned. Sheridan gets involved with the help of friends and they visit various wineries investigating.

I really enjoyed this story. It has wine, desserts, dog shelter, and a good mystery. I like The relationship between Sheridan, Brett, and Maddie.

The one negative for me was when the narrator did the male voices. Brett and his partner are a large part of the book and Brett’s partner, Fabry’s voice seemed really odd and I never got used to it.

Story - 5 stars
Narration - 4 stars

The Chocolate Magic Cafe is book #1 in the Chocolate Magic Cozy Mystery series by Olivia Swift. Audible versions narrated by Sarah K. Lynn.

Magda Caraganic inherited a stable and decided to convert it into a cafe to sell her chocolates. She found she shared it with a ghost cat that some could see and others couldn’t.

I’ve read later books in the series and I really enjoy them. It was fun to start at the beginning and see how everything started, both with the cafe and relationships. I bought the book, but hadn’t had time to read it, so the audiobook version worked well for me.

The narrator did an excellent job. I thought she handled all the voices well, including the male voices. I would listen to other books narrated by her.

I own the eBook, but I received a free copy of this audiobook via StoryOrigin and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

The Couple in Cabin 2124 is book #4 in the Patricia Fisher Mystery series by Steve Higgs.

This is the first book I’ve read/listened to in the series and I really enjoyed it. The characters are great and it was an interesting mystery. There were some very humorous moments that made me laugh out loud.

I listened to the Audible version and the narration was very good.
