Historia
The man who became known as Esrahaddon is reported to have destroyed the world’s greatest empire—but there are those who believe he saved it. Few individuals are as divisive, but all agree on three facts: He was exiled to the wilderness, hunted by a goblin priestess, and sentenced to death by a god—all before the age of eight. How he managed to survive and why people continued to fear his name a thousand years later has always been a mystery...until now.

A great potential conclusion to a fantastic series
Revisado: 09-08-23
Sullivan's 4 series inside of this world are really wonderful stories. His writing style is not as sophisticated as some authors, and I can see how some writing snobs potentially might criticise it on these grounds. But I've never read a series which contradicted itself less. Yes there are a few contradictions, but these always get explained away eventually.
Of his series, this may be the least endearing because its main characters keep changing. But this is a necessary consequence of this series jumping through history the way it does.
It's still wonderful though, if you are new to Sullivan's work, I would start with any other series than thus one. The reading order of his series is not critical, but I'd definitely leave this one for the last since he ties up so many loose ends in this series.
Even saying this, as a big fan of Sullivan,s work, I loved this series! It answered a number of questions while adding a few new ones which I hope he decides to do something with in the future.
IMO, This may be among the best fantasy series since The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. And it is made to come alive by yet another fantastic performance by the amazing Tim Reynolds.
Strongly recommended. Just chose any of his other series to read first.

Yet another great book by a fantastic author.
Revisado: 08-31-23
Larry Correia is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. This is an excellent series. Its smart, well written, fast pased, and entertaining. It might be too violent for some though. The violence gets pretty graphic at times. The performance is excellent as well.
My only disappointment with the series is that the ending felt rushed. He ended the series with 2 rather large questions unanswered, although he did hint at some possibilities. Perhaps those were threads for the future which he just hasn't done anything with yet?

A good story, but the author is overly predictable
Revisado: 06-17-23
I like this series overall, and definitely want to see how the story ends. Unfortunately this author has certain literary devices he falls back upon over and over again which make his stories both annoying and predictable at times.
One of these devices is what I think of as "leave it to beaver" syndrome. By this I mean that whenever there is a kid in his story, the kid always does something stupid, and then the story centers around fixing the problem that the dumb kid created in the first place. This I find to be both annoying and predictable.
The second device he uses is that crisis scenarios are always too big for the characters to solve themselves. So somebody always has to rescue them. Why can't he ever just let the characters figure things out for themselves?
Despite these annoyances, the series is still worthwhile. But the twists are relatively few and far between. I've heard better. But I've also heard much worse.
Tim Reynolds performance is absolutely first rate though, and helps to make the annoying parts of the story listenable enough to keep me from losing interest.

Oliver Wyman triumphantly narrates Book #8!!!
Revisado: 03-30-23
If you're reading this review, I presume that you are already familiar with the story of MHI. So, I won't waste a lot of space about the story other than to say that it is easily just as good as is the rest of the series. There are a few minor plot twists, but overall, it's a very fun ride, even if the basic premise inherently lacks much in the way of believability.
But the narration of this series deserves extra special attention IMO. Seven of the 8 books (so far) in this series were Narrated by Mr Wyman, although disappointingly, book number 7 was not.
I've listened to a great many different narrators over the years, and IMO Oliver Wyman's narrations are among the very best of the best. Not only does he have unique voices and very appropriate accents for most characters. Not only does he genuinely perform each of these roles, rather than just reading them. But he can do some really great and sometimes highly amusing impersonations of all sorts of different Monster voices from Dragons, to trolls, to knomes, etc.
I have been an audio book fan since the late 90s when my wife first purchased the Harry Potter series. That was the first time that I'd ever head a genuinely excellent narration of a series. Prior to that most of the narrations that I had heard were pretty terrible. Mr Wymans narrations are easily at least as good as best I have heard.
Even if you aren't into this particular genera of literature, I suspect that you will still enjoy Mr. Wyman's superb performances. I really hope that Audible studios (as well as other publishers) hire him back to apply his particular breed of auditory magic to many more books in the future!
