Historia
A series of grisly murders rocks London. At each location, only a jumble of bones remains of the deceased, along with a bizarre sphere covered in strange symbols. The son of the latest victim seeks the help of Sherlock Holmes and his former partner, Dr. John Watson. They discover the common thread tying together the murders. Bizarre geometries, based on ancient schematics, enable otherworldly creatures to enter our dimension, seeking to wreak havoc and destruction.

The world is saved… for now…
Revisado: 04-16-25
I thought the author did a really good job of capturing Sherlock Holmes and Watson. I’m a big Lovecraft fan, and that goes beyond pop media shows, movies and games that dabble in Lovecraftian lore. That being said, I think the author did a great job of capturing Lovecraftian lore and how it’s subtle and overlooked like a mystery we’ll never fully comprehend.
There wasn’t as much gore as all the reviews made it seem like, but there were some descriptive gory parts.
All in all, I feel like Sherlock had a tough time with this case and we barely scratched the surface, which is why I imagine there are two more books in the series. I’m excited to start the next one.

Mundane subtle Lovecraft
Revisado: 03-02-25
If you’re looking for all the action that other Arkham novels by fantasy flight provide, or the action from the various games, that’s not this.
There are some Lovecraft stories, even written by Lovecraft himself, that focus on seemingly mundane lives and a slow burn reveal of something otherworldly. Again, this isn’t an action novel, it’s more of a mystery novel.
These type of novels are actually more Lovecraft because Lovecraft’s own novels weren’t jampacked with action or characters that were ready for it. Lovecraft had several stories where it was just normal people going through their normal lives and discovering odd or horrible truths, usually by accident, and trying to deal with it or survive.
I actually like this story, but I wish the ending stretched out a little bit instead of wrapping up so fast. The reader’s voice is soothing, and she does a good job of changing her voice between the two characters. I feel like she really embodied the voice of The characters so this was very easy to listen to.
It is a little bit of a mystery, so everything will make sense later.

Better than the first
Revisado: 12-23-24
I stumbled upon the first book in this series when I was remembering some old Arkham Horror novels I’ve read years ago. The first in this series was phenomenal. This book was better. Looking forward to starting up the third after this review.

Wonderful background stories to lovable characters.
Revisado: 11-06-24
I’ve played a lot of fantasy flight games over the years, so I’m familiar with these characters. It’s nice to listen to different stories that have a feel that transport you to the 1920s, set the scene, and you can see how these ordinary characters are able to get lucky and thwart evil plans. It’s awesome. These feel like origin stories for how the characters ended up stationed in or around Arkham. If you’re familiar with fantasy flight Arkham horror characters, and you love that series, these are worth a listen.
