Disappointed
Revisado: 10-24-24
As always, Angus King's narration was great. While I liked the other books in this series, I was disappointed in this one. It was disjointed, hard to follow , and confusing at times. The story itself was uninteresting. Add to that the short length of the book. It seemed like it was written fast just to get a book out.

Good story until the end.

I don't know why everyone is complaining about the narrator. I thought he was fine. I think the author missed an opportunity to develop one of the characters more. The ending was bizarre, disconnected and left so many unanswered questions.

Saw It Coming
Revisado: 07-21-24
I have listened to a few of this author's books before. i really did enjoy them. However, in this book I guessed very early on who dun it. If she had only changed the ending to make it a true surprise it would've been better. The female narrator was great. The male narrator sounded like an old newcaster monotone and without any emotion.

Good Story, Bad Narrator
Revisado: 12-20-23
Story was good, not one of their best. The narrator was annoying. she made all the men sound arrogant and stuffy, even Skip who is supposed to be a free spirit type of guy. And Sherriff Watson? Good lord, the southern accent was like nails on a blackboard

Narrator Ruins It
Revisado: 03-11-23
I couldn't get past chapter 5. The narration was soooo terrible. It was like nails on a chalkboard. She made the 30-something woman sound like an annoying preteen. I kept on telling her what an idiot she was. Wish I could've gotten further to find out if the story itself was any good

Historia
A mummified corpse, over half a century old, is found in the cellar of an abandoned building in a remote New Mexico ghost town. Corrie Swanson is assigned what seems to her a throwaway case: to ID the body and determine cause of death. She brings archaeologist Nora Kelly to excavate the body and lend her expertise to the investigation, and together they uncover something unexpected and shocking: the deceased apparently died in agony, in a fetal position, skin coming off in sheets, with a rictus of horror frozen on his face. Hidden on the corpse lies a 16th-century Spanish gold cross.

Need a Better Narrator
Revisado: 01-21-21
I have read/listened to all the Preston/Child books out there. First of all the overall narration of the book was fine but the voices, especially the men, were so aggravating. When the handsome cowboy, Sherriff Watts, came into the story she made him sound like a pretentious snob mixed with a surfer boy. Then later in the book he had a little bit of a drawl like a western cowboy would. And then there's the butchering of Agent Pendergast's accent, what the heck? A British accent? He's not an MI6 agent. Really hard to listen through that part. The story itself felt very familiar. I think I listened to a book previously that had an almost identical plot only I can't remember what book it was. A little disappointed with this book
