The Sword is a murder-mystery set in a small town in Texas. Ixora and Jant are the two detectives who must solve the case of a young man who was murdered by a sword. Ixora is a unique character because of her heritage and personality and the story is told from her perspective. She is kind of a tomboy and has a Goth style which makes it hard for her to be accepted by her co-workers. I thought the narrator did a great job speaking as her and I enjoyed the many different voices she gave the characters. Especially the ones who talked with a Texas accent. There is more sex in this book than I was expecting because Ixora and Jant are not just partners, but lovers too. I hope the author writes a follow-up and we can learn more about Jant.

I read the “Behind the Camera” book and downloaded the audio because the book was so good. The narrator nailed Kelsie, the main character. She sounded exactly like I thought a 20 something young woman who is naïve, inexperienced with men and slowly becoming a drug addict sounds. Kelsie is desperate for love and gets involved with two very different men. Kelsie’s use of drugs and alcohol begins to affect her greatly and the narrator portrays an out of control, self-centered and whiney drug addict perfectly. This book series is so good and is a great and honest reflection of how young women can get in way over their head when they become fashion models and hook-up with people who just want to use them and they don’t have the common sense to stop themselves from getting sucked further into the party lifestyle.

This was such a cool audiobook. I really enjoyed the narrator’s portrayal of Jill, the main character. She was able to capture a broad range of emotion. On one hand Jill appears weak but you can hear and feel her growth as the book progresses. Jill’s friend Emily is murdered and leaves her property to Jill. The detective, Greg King, is working the case and becomes Jill’s love interest. Set in a small town there are many secrets that are uncovered throughout the course of the book. I enjoyed all of the characters, especially Aunt Jackie and the narrator did a great job playing all the parts. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a murder/mystery. Can’t wait to check out the second part, “Mission to Murder”.
