Historia
Our narrator should be happy, shouldn't she? She's young, thin, pretty, a recent Columbia graduate; she works an easy job at a hip art gallery and lives in an apartment on the Upper East Side of Manhattan paid for, like the rest of her needs, by her inheritance. But there is a dark and vacuous hole in her heart, and it isn't just the loss of her parents, or the way her Wall Street boyfriend treats her, or her sadomasochistic relationship with her best friend, Reva. It's the year 2000 in a city aglitter with wealth and possibility; what could be so terribly wrong?

I don't understand the good reviews
Revisado: 05-03-19
I got halfway through and I just couldn't listen to this woman complain anymore. I didn't like her or feel sorry for her or want to be a part of her world. I gave it a good solid four hours, but I have to return it - I don't care what happens to her.

Historia
Charlotte Walsh is running for Senate in the most important race in the country during a midterm election that will decide the balance of power in Congress. Still reeling from a presidential election that shocked and divided the country, and inspired by the chance to make a difference, she’s left behind her high-powered job in Silicon Valley and returned, with her husband, Max, and their three young daughters, to her downtrodden Pennsylvania hometown to run in the Rust Belt state.

Great Book - but there is one big drawback
Revisado: 03-09-19
POSSIBLE SPOILER ABOUT MISSING CHAPTER - The book is a great story and I really enjoyed it until the last chapter. It does not have an ending. Instead of telling us how things turn out, the author comes on and basically says she couldn't decide how to end it and that she wanted to leave it to the reader to contemplate. That was frustrating for me. It is still worth reading and I didn't return it, but I can't say I wasn't disappointed.

When Imogen returns to work at Glossy after six months away, she can barely recognize her own magazine. Eve, fresh out of Harvard Business School, has fired "the gray hairs", put the managing editor in a supply closet, stopped using the landlines, and hired a bevy of manicured and questionably attired underlings who text and tweet their way through meetings.

Not for me - Wanted to love it but so whiny
Revisado: 12-17-18
The main characters are just too one dimensional for me - ditzy and whiny. I tried three time to get through the whole thing but finally gave up and requested a refund.

Historia
Heartwarming, insightful, and often laugh-out-loud funny, A Dog's Purpose is not only the emotional and hilarious story of a dog's many lives, but also a dog's-eye commentary on human relationships and the unbreakable bonds between man and man's best friend. This moving and beautifully crafted story teaches us that love never dies, that our true friends are always with us, and that every creature on earth is born with a purpose.

Love dogs but just could not make it through this!
Revisado: 06-08-17
This book, at least the first eleven chapters is written from a puppy's point of view. It reads like a children's book. I tried to make it through, I really did, and I kept hoping a sense of maturity would kick in as the story progressed and the dog got older, but I just couldn't take it anymore after eleven chapters - listening to the dog's reasoning on why he tore up things in the kitchen after being left alone for 22 minutes was the last straw for me. It was cute, but not for hours on end. I am returning this title. Don't think of less of me as I really do love dogs and a good dog story, but this was just too juvenile for me.

I am one of the very few who hated this book
Revisado: 10-16-16
I so wanted to like this book. Every one seems to like this book. I listened for four hours and I just couldn't do it anymore. I didn't like these women, One was an alcoholic and the other some type of bi polar narcissist. Maybe they redeem themselves in the book later on, but for the hours I listened, I didn't care what happened to either of them. The mystery couldn't hook me because I had no interest in what happened to either of these self obsessed people. I am returning it knowing that I missed out on the ending of a book so many people found fascinating and wondering what is wrong with me that I just couldn't make it through.

Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell". But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.

I don't understand the great ratings
Revisado: 04-26-16
I really wanted to like this book. I put in 2.5 hours hoping it would get better and that I would find a way to like this character and the weird style of the narrative, but I just didn't like it. I really don't understand the great ratings. I must be missing something - maybe it improves with more hours in....

This short book repeats a lot of the first book
Revisado: 11-11-15
In an effort to standalone, this short book spends a lot of time repeating the events of the last book and explaining who the main character's friends are and where they come from, etc. So, there isn't actually all that much new story to it. The new story is ok, but it seems like it was almost an afterthought and that the purpose of the book was to reintroduce all the prior characters and introduce one new witch character.

Historia
Ensign Andrew Dahl has just been assigned to the Universal Union Capital Ship Intrepid, flagship of the Universal Union since the year 2456. Life couldn’t be better…until Andrew begins to pick up on the facts that (1) every Away Mission involves some kind of lethal confrontation with alien forces; (2) the ship’s captain, its chief science officer, and the handsome Lieutenant Kerensky always survive these confrontations; and (3) at least one low-ranked crew member is, sadly, always killed.

Not as well plotted as the other Scalzi books
Revisado: 10-13-15
Maybe I am being unfair because I am comparing this to Scalzi's other novels, especially Old Man's War, Agent to the Stars and Lock In, but this one didn't seem as well plotted and I didn't get to know the characters enough to really care about them in the long run. Still entertaining, but it isn't one I would really recommend unless you are particularly interested in Star Trek perhaps. Wheaton is a great narrator, even though the material here wasn't as good as the other Scalzi books he has narrated.

Fun story with good narrator
Revisado: 10-12-15
I liked this book the best of the series. It was a fun ride is the best way I can explain it. This is relatively light reading, but the characters are well drawn and there is enough humor to keep the macabre in check.
