Great book. History should be told has it happened not as we wished if had happened. Not every one is a saint nor every one a sinner....

Short and sweet and kept me on the edge of my seat. So many ups and down - but such is life. If only life as sweet as the bookstore/bakery treats. Can't wait for the next short story being released in a few days.

Conflicted - But Really Enjoyed This Book

This is the first fime I have read (listened to) a book about Alice. She had an interesting and fast paced life. I enjoyed the book and learning about her, I am just not sure how I feel about her. She was a flawed human like we all are. This book bought out all the emotions and feelings a person can have - which is what a good book does. I really liked her spunk in some chapters and questioned her reasoning and politics in others. She stayed true to herself, but was smart enough to realize that the world changes and you have to move forward and embrace the changes and progress instead of holding on to the past. I am sure I would have enjoyed being a guest at one of her dinner parties, since I like to read as often as I can, and at 63, I do my best to learn something new every day. Wealth is in knowledge - not money.

I originally bought the hardback and started reading that. I am older and my vision is not what it once was - even with glasses. I decided to also purchase the audiobook so I could listen to it before settling in bed for the night. This should be required reading starting in middle school ( or junior high - depending on what it is called in your area) and all through high school. As one grows and matures they can understand more and more of this book. We need to get back to a fact based society and stop with the “alternative facts/I did my own google research so now I am an expert” movement of late.

I am 63 years old. I just discovered Joan Didion and enjoyed reading this book and The Year of Magical Thinking. Raw, emotional, heartfelt, heartbreaking. One never knows the strength they possess until faced with the choice to sink or swim. Some days we just have our nose above water - but it still takes strength to do that. Have added her to my list of must read authors.

What an inspiring story. When we give our children the space and love to be who they know they are - the world becomes a better place. If as a parent who cannot or will not love your child unconditionally- then please do not have children. Children who are loved and supported (not spoiled, there is a difference) can then grow up to be loving and supportive adults. It is a cycle we should all strive to be a part of. Be kind. You never know what someone is going through.

How can one not simply adore Trevor Noah and by extension, his family. I have the audiobook and the actual book. Once I picked up the actual book, I read it in one day.

Most parents can relate! Hilarious, blunt and captured my feelings when my now adult kids refused to sleep at times.

As someone who grew up near Hickory Hill where Ethel and the kids lived, I totally agree with the assessement of Bobby Jr and Joe. David was given drugs by his older brothers and cousin Chris Lawford. He was a lost human and the addiction did not help. As I also knew John Jr, your depection of him was way off base. I am glad you mentioned his ADHD, which was a factor in his seemingly carelessness and other aspects of his life. He had been on medication for that since the age of 3. He was a kind, caring and humble person. He was not however dumb. He was extremely dyslexic.. and refused all offers to be given the bar exam orally - which was his absolute right to have. He did not want special treatment. He was not interested in pursuing political office - everyone else wanted him to do that. He wanted no part in that as a career. His passion was acting, something his mother would never allow. He was told no many times and was not spoiled. Carolyn was not the first to tell him no. She berated him constantly and she was heavily into drugs, something he never was. I met William Kennedy Smith a few times. He was not as bad as RFK Jr nor was he as good of a person as John Jr. He was not really entitled in my opinion. He was shy. I kept up with his trial through TV, reading court transcripts, etc. While as a woman I don't believe in blaming women just because they wear certain clothes, have a past (like who doesn't), or any other excuse the media makes - I really do think this was a case of regret afterwards and not assault. Sadly these things happen to many people, not just women. She did not deserve to be dragged through the mud but she should have just been honest about that night. No shame in regret but do not it was not consensual when it was. I was a baby during president Kenmedys administration but have worked in many aspects of the government when I was younger. Those women where naïve at best but not victims. I've told many a boss no, and one I said yes. That was my choice to make as a 19 year old. I don't regret the yes, nor do I regret the ones I said no too. For some reason, the women who have been attracted to the Kennedy men, especially RFK Junior and his generation, have all had some warped sense of being, many have had mental health issues before they met these men, which may explain why they were attracted to each other. Addiction runs deep in the Kennedy family as it does in many families sadly. Sometimes it is just similar personalities, attracting similar personalities. No one deserves to be abused, whether it be physically, mentally or emotionally - that goes for both parties. I didn't know Mary at all, so I can't speak about her, but Carolyn treated John worse thanl he or any human deserved. Did not know the Skakel men (Boys?) personally but have heard by many family members that they were a disturbed bunch. Ethel came from a very dysfunctional family and married into one as well. The Skakels had zero discipline, zero morals and zero self control or awareness. Ethel herself was a total wreck of a human and mother. She wanted children but did not want to be a mother to them., just like Rose. Jackie was a very good mother but suffered from extreme PTSD. Today she would be called a helicopter mother.

I have Lisa Marie's CDs. Her voice was haunting. Children of celebrities can have a messed up life - money doesn't make everything better. I am happy Riley finished her moms story - LM was interesting. She was more than Elvis and Priscilla's daughter. I hope this book helps anyone suffering from pain, addiction, insecurity or heartache. None of these things discriminate. We can suffer from any or all (or more) of these things - but there is joy and good times to be had - even if it is small doses.
