Historia
Kyle Fasano has it all: a loving wife, two children, and a house on the hill. Still, for one night it's not enough. Risking everything, he has a fling with a woman from the office. He knows better, but she offers a simple temptation. Napoleon Villa has very little: no real family, no real home. A veteran detective for the LAPD, he is a gray wolf in an ever-darkening world. When the call comes in that a young woman has plummeted to her death at the Los Angeles Hilton, it seems like just another case.

Revisado: 07-11-20
If you have grown to like the Alex and Milo series, you will definitely like this. The action moves ahead more steadily than in some of Kellerman’s previous books. Don’t let your mind wander. There is always something important happening.

Historia
When a peculiar letter arrives inviting Armand Gamache to an abandoned farmhouse, the former head of the Sûreté du Québec discovers that a complete stranger has named him one of the executors of her will. Still on suspension, and frankly curious, Gamache accepts and soon learns that the other two executors are Myrna Landers, the bookseller from Three Pines, and a young builder. None of them had ever met the elderly woman. The will is so odd and includes bequests that are so wildly unlikely that Gamache and the others suspect the woman must have been delusional.

Louise Penny fans won’t be disappointed
Revisado: 12-08-18
At the very vey, I thought: “She’s written the same book again.” But before long, I realized that this format is what is familiar, the multiple plots, the characters and their personas, carefully developed over the course of all the previous books, and, of course Gamache, himself. That’s what makes us love these books and I’m already eagerly waiting to see what Louise Penny does next with the world she has created for us.

Historia
Peter Guillam, staunch colleague and disciple of George Smiley of the British Secret Service, otherwise known as the Circus, is living out his old age on the family farmstead on the south coast of Brittany when a letter from his old service summons him to London. The reason? His Cold War past has come back to claim him. Intelligence operations that were once the toast of secret London, and involved such characters as Alec Leamas, Jim Prideaux, George Smiley, and Peter Guillam himself, are to be scrutinized by a generation with no memory of the Cold War.

The phrasing, the narration, the characters will be a welcome reprise to fans who thought the old days of the "circus " were forever gone.
The downside is that you need to be familiar with the other George Smiley books to appreciate this. Fortunately, there are many of us.

Really dark
Revisado: 06-27-17
The first part of the book reads like street poetry. Then it gets progressively darker. If you need happy endings, this is not for you, but for gritty cop action prose, Winslow is right at the top of the list.

Historia
Moscow, February 1953. A week before Stalin's death, his final pogrom, "one that would forever rid the Motherland of the vermin", is in full swing. Three government goons arrive in the middle of the night to arrest Solomon Shimonovich Levinson, an actor from the defunct State Jewish Theater. But Levinson, though an old man, is a veteran of past wars, and his shocking response to the intruders sets in motion a series of events both zany and deadly as he proceeds to assemble a ragtag group to help him enact a mad-brilliant plot: the assassination of a tyrant.

Good story but a bit tedious.
Revisado: 03-16-17
We get the point that the protagonists are all Jewish Russians in the 1950s, but if the listener understands neither Russian nor Yiddish, we have to wait patiently for the translation, a situation that occurs about every 2 1/2 minutes. This is a book that most people will be happier reading than listening to.

In the best historical novel tradition
Revisado: 09-04-16
Margaret Tudor the oldest daughter of Henry VII, seems, in turn, jealous, spoiled, immature, and sometimes even stupid until one considers the context. In sixteenth century Europe, even royal princesses were considered as chattel, the total possessions of the succession of men in their lives. Margaret's jealous obsession with rank, title, and possessions, ceases to become irritating when viewed in the light of the constant battle to take these things from her.
