This is a great read and listening experience. I bounced between the kindle and audible because I could not stop reading this story. Rich characters that help strike a balance between serious social commentary and frequent belly laughs. Would write more but I need to start reading book 2!!!

Worth reading, with a caveat

Great story idea. Unfortunately the 2 story lines spends the entire book developing background without establishing a major plot conflict. It's worth reading for the virtual world. And I'm hopeful that book two will delve into major plot work. Think of this book as one half of a larger story and enjoy the fun.

An historic story told well

As a lifelong Cubs fan I enjoyed this book. It's written with a deep understanding of the past psychology and anguish each year brought. The fact I've just wrote this as past tense is a cathartic release that this book shares as a powerful tale for Cubs and baseball fans alike.

Good frantic story

The audio was a good listen. The characters carried the story, which makes it worth reading or listening to. The evidence investigation and court case was interesting. My cation is that there is a suspension of reality you have to make at the beginning with the main character's courtroom experience and the unnecessary moments of over the top melodrama which are not needed as the author's story is compelling without those instances. I did enjoy the story and would read another from this author.

The story is a great continuation to the series. Mann and the supporting cast provide suspense and humor without losing the gaming adventures. The ending is surprising and satisfying. Starting the next book asap.

Intriguing Premise

This version of an alternate earth in the form of computer game that's played by those up to 18 is a unique twist on the virtual genre. But it feels like book one is focused on world building while the main plot and conflict is hinted at but never revealed.

I recommend reading this for it's interesting characters and the world building. The reader does a top quality job with the voices. I assume that the plot reveals itself in book 2. I will consider reading book two.

Great sequel

I'd reviewed the first book as a good read with a plot that needed more. Book 2 has everything. Interesting characters, irreverent humor, and an engaging plot. Great story for RPG players and those non-players looking for a light fantasy read. I can't wait to read the next in this funny series.

Great laughs for gamers

If you're a role player then you find this book hilarious with its one liners and humorous reactions by the characters. The plot is feels like a grip of friends playing a round of D&D. Hope the next book has more plot substance to match the excellent cast of characters. Try it out.

Great Story

The storytelling is enjoyable and makes the novel worth listening to. The only problem is the actor's whispering in parts of the narrative. Yes, the characters are whispering but the result is missing the words. This detracts from the full telling. Great characters to care about. Expert telling from multiple points of view. Look foreword to reading the next book.

Good Idea - Over the top Charactatures

Love concept of humanity rising from the rubble of devastation by an alien force with superior technology. The main character is mostly believable. The rest of the cast are stock cliches. Aliens are all arrogant with their superior tech, to the point that they seem baffling in their tendency to make stupid decisions with relation to tactics, intrigue, and the humans. The story repeatedly hits the reader on the head with this message making the storytelling plodding and heavy handed. Consider reading stories by Heilein - Starship Trooper - or Weber - Honor Harrington series.
