My biggest gripe is the narrator’s continued mispronunciation of viola/violist. I was not aware of this story until reading this and it was interesting, I just wish it was clearer how much is recreated narrative vs. actual fact. There are conversations between characters that feel they only exist to convey information that could have been conveyed outside of dialogue.

Would you consider the audio edition of Spill Simmer Falter Wither to be better than the print version?

Yes; the accent and pacing of the narration transports the listener to the setting of the story instantaneously.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Spill Simmer Falter Wither?

Although the book had plot points, the impression of the story was more wide-reaching, like broad brush strokes of story, feeling, and character than of peculiar moments. The book really captured my heart when the main character introduces One-Eye to "his father's house" because it helps you understand something about the psychology and disposition of the main character.

Which character – as performed by John Keating – was your favorite?

The main character, Ray, was so fully developed, rich with feelings relatable to greater or lesser degrees by anyone. The sorrow he felt and tried to hide and work through gave great structure and shape to the story, particularly as his focus was not on himself but on his dog.

If you could take any character from Spill Simmer Falter Wither out to dinner, who would it be and why?

I would take Ray--as described through Baume's writing, it is impossible not to develop a true affection for the character.

Any additional comments?

The way Sara Baume uses language in this book is breathtaking. It's as though listening to poetry, without the strict rigors of syllable counting or rhyming. Truly, even if the story were not as poignant and touching as it is, I would still want to listen for the sheer beauty of sound of the words being combined. Definitely one of my top-ten reads from 2016.

Bloopers weren't edited out. Entire story had a bit of a sarcastic, over the top, trying too hard to be funny kind of tone to it. The epilogue and conclusion were best.
