Historia
Chloe Pirrie and Ben Batt star in this stunning dramatisation of Emily Brontë's classic, adapted by best-selling author Rachel Joyce. When homeless orphan Heathcliff is brought to the isolated, storm-swept farmhouse of Wuthering Heights, he sparks very different emotions in the children of the house, Hindley and Cathy. While Hindley instantly hates him and makes his life miserable, Heathcliff finds a soul mate in Cathy, and the two spend days playing together on the wild Yorkshire moors. Inseparable as children, passionately in love as adolescents, they are everything to each other....

My favorite novel
Revisado: 10-12-24
I love the Brontë sisters. Both Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre are my top two favorite novels. This version is more like a play than word for word novel. It’s well-done and I enjoyed it very much!

Historia
Maine, 1789: When the Kennebec River freezes, entombing a man in the ice, Martha Ballard is summoned to examine the body and determine cause of death. As a midwife and healer, she is privy to much of what goes on behind closed doors in Hallowell. Her diary is a record of every birth and death, crime and debacle that unfolds in the close-knit community. Months earlier, Martha documented the details of an alleged rape committed by two of the town’s most respected gentlemen—one of whom has now been found dead in the ice.

Truly enjoyable
Revisado: 10-12-24
Wow, The Frozen River is excellent. The narrator, Martha Ballard, made me feel like I was a midwife in late 18th century New England. Her descriptions of the stories characters, the community where she lived, and her role as a wife, mother, and midwife are very authentic. You really can feel, almost in your body if you are female like myself, how frightening and dangerous childbirth was during the 1700s.
I really like the way the author wove the mystery of Joshua’s death throughout the story until the end, the conclusion did not disappoint! I would like to read more of Ariel’s books!
