Historia
Who hasn’t wondered for a split second what the world would be like if a person who is the object of your affliction ceased to exist? But then you’ve probably never heard of The McMasters Conservatory, dedicated to the consummate execution of the homicidal arts. To gain admission, a student must have an ethical reason for erasing someone who deeply deserves a fate no worse (nor better) than death. The campus of this “Poison Ivy League” college—its location unknown to even those who study there—is where you might find yourself the practice target of a classmate.

A fantastic story.
Revisado: 01-26-25
This was one of those listens where I actually stayed in my car and drove around just to hear a little bit more. The writing was charming and witty, clearly not taking itself too seriously and reveling in fun puns and plot twists and turns. I love stories where the good triumph and the evil get their just desserts and this was one of those delightful yarns. I’ll listen to this again.

Uninteresting and angsty
Revisado: 11-04-22
I really wanted to like this book but I just didn’t. The author spend so much time in personal reflection and discussion of her anxiety that it makes the entire read difficult. There are too many loose threads and though several of them seem to be tied up, it just didn’t make for a very interesting story.

Historia
Not every danger comes in the form of a mega-threat like a Titan. Some predators are a lot cozier...more personal. When one such creature threatens an independent tutor, Harry Dresden must shake off the blood and dirt of his most recent battles and rise to the occasion, even when it turns out that the new predator is far more dangerous and connected than first appearances would suggest.

Thank you Jim! What a treat!
Revisado: 07-05-22
So, I first started the book expecting James Marsters. I had a brief moment of devastation when I realized it wasn’t him - until I realized that Jim Butcher decided to narrate this little gem himself. What an incredible treat! Of course he nails the characters perfectly, and the plot is a great nudge in the Dresden storyline. It’s just making me more excited for the next book. Which I’m hoping will be soon. Seriously, Jim are you writing? Get back to it man!!
In all seriousness though - this was a perfect Dresden snack to tide me over. Great story, great narration!

Nondescript - hoping for more. The narrator was not fabulous - boring and though he had good voices, his narration was halted and frustrating to listen to

Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband, Gabriel, returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety.

Thank you Jim - a wonderful story - worth the wait...
Revisado: 10-01-20
Maybe. It was a pretty long wait! Nonetheless, we’ve come full circle and Harry’s now playing with the big boys - but has some pretty big guns with which to tackle the situation. James Marsters is, as always, unrivaled. Sadly, I’ve now listened - read it twice and am eagerly anticipating the next. Drat and double drat! They are over too quickly.. anyway, the two books together - this and the previous- were a brilliant advance in the story, and I’m feeling like Harry is well set up for whatever endgame Jim has in store... just please don’t make us wait four years for the next one!!

Revisado: 07-16-20
Admittedly, this book was a long time coming. Although I’m frustrated as can be that this epic story has been split into two- I am already anxiously awaiting the second half. I can’t say I absolutely love this particular piece of Harry’s story, but it’s solid, Important and has some wonderful sneaky moments.
